Ok, I didn't see this in any other forum, so I thought I'd just start a thread. My computer is a AMD Athlon 3400+, Radeon 8500 card, and every time I load Call of Duty it does weird stuff. I have all the patches, even purified the files. When I lauch the game, the menu is split in half. The bottom looks right, but the top fades in different colors of blue. When in the game, every time something moves or fires, the HUD flashes. As long as there's no firing it's fine. (Try firing a Russian PPSH...) I can't figure out the problem. I thoguht it was the drivers but after updating them, it's worse! Now the game crashes if I click on anything. I really need some help...

It is a graphics problem. Now that you've updated the graphics drivers, do a clean reinstall of the game. Make sure you delete the COD folder (it gets left behind), and make sure you delete the COD.ini file (do a search for it).

I deleted the COD folder, but I couldn't find the COD.ini file. I re-installed the game, patched it, and it still froze. I got all the way to looking up servers when it just froze. The screen flashed a few times, came back on, flashed again, then turned off. 30 sec. later, it turned back on but was black. Tried to alt-tab, and control-alt-del but it stayed black. So I restarted it and figured I reply before I did anything else. The screen flashing is the video card, and since I just updated the drivers, it has got to be the video card. I plan on getting a new one, I had just hoped it would last a little longer. So much for the 128mb Radeon 8500, maybe I'll get a 256mb this time...

An Ati with 128mg of memory would work under normal circumstances. Are you overcloking it? What driver are you using - the official release one (Catalyst), or Omega drivers?

I'm using the official driver, and I know it can run the game but as of lately, it just won't...

Have you tried playing with your sound settings? this might sound way off, but if your sound is too high for your system it will rob your system of cpu power and hence the video card would suffer. In my experience, adjusting sound settings has sorted out a freeze.

if you update your card make sure not to go ati they have had nothing but problems. get a 6600gt or 6800 nvidia. save yourself a lot of trouble.

I have a very similar problem. CODUO worked fine online until i upgraded my nVIDIA drivers from 66.94 to 77.72 on this machine: Geforce4 64Mb AMD1300 on Win ME. I downgraded the drivers by uninstalling 77 and reinstalling 66, and it worked again. so I was buying a new PC anyway, my new spec is: WinXP Pro AMD 64 3800+ 2x 256Mb nVIDIA GeForce 6800GT SLi cards (E-PCI 16) 2Gb 3200 DDR Ram I have installed directX 9.0c and the nVIDIA drivers 77.72. I have not enabled SLI mode, so I am only using one card. I reinstalled the game, patched both COD and CODUO with 1.5 and 1.51, and it loads up and I can search for games and such, but once the map loads it locks up within 10-30 secs. The whole PC dies and I have to hard reset. I manually upgraded punkbuster and removed all my mods, to no avail. I cut out my firewall, router, everything that might have gotten in the way, but same problem. Is it the nVIDIA drivers I wonder? cos that caused the problem in the old machine. One would hope not. Any ideas?

I should have said I turned off xfire and ventrilo and everything but explorer and systray, and it still freezes. I read all the posts about the ATI drivers problem and I'm wondering if it is simply that CODUO 1.51 will not work with some nVIDIA machines using the 77.72 patch. Because, let's face it, it's an old game. BUT I LOVE IT and I'M A CLAN LEADER so I need to sort htis out soonish. Anyone can help me I'll buy them a virtual pint. eggman

also my monitor is a viewsonic vx912 running in 1280x1024. I set my in-game graphics settings to 1024x768 and all the highest graphics and sound settings. I tried it on defaults too, but it still freezes...
