Hello,

I recently installed some custom maps on my server, everything worked well, people could connect and play. Later, I decided to remove the maps temporarily as some of them gave the status of a modded server, I deleted them all from the UO folder, and disabled downloads from the website set up. I then ran the server again and it shows up in the server list as pure, however when you try to join you get an error from the file uo_ui_mp_x86.dll, something about could not run as pure. This affected both people who dl'ed and played the custom maps, as well as those that didn't - so I assume it's gotta be server sided. I looked through the folders and couldn't see any obvious files that shouldn't be there;

I changed the server cfg to non-pure which works, but I'd ideally like it to go back to being pure.

Just missed the edit window.

I can't join ANY pure servers, so presumably the culprit file is on my laptop as well. I tried cross referencing the server files and with the ones on my laptop, but if they're both not working then it's not much use.

Scrap all of the above, I got it working again. I deleted the pakuo07 files from the server and my laptop and then restored them from trash, which miracuously worked as I was clutching at straws with that one. I do have another question now though, is there some software I can get (free) that will enable me to "unpack" the files so that I can redo the map name to what i want it to be? Some custom maps have really annoying names that you need to remember for rcon map changes.

PK3 files can be unpacked with winzip or winrar, however, be wary about changing the map names as those that visit your server will have the original names in their folders. To play on your server with the new names, they will have to download the map, even though they already have it.

If you have PB working, you could always alt-tab out to the PB interface to change maps or use HLSW. Another method would be to have the change map command and map name already written in a wordpad document. Alt tab out to wordpad, highlight the command and required map name, then alt tab back to the game, pull down the console and ctrl V to paste the line in console.

Thanks for your reply.

In regards to renaming the map names, after unpack one I see there's a few files named the same as the actual map name, do I need to change all of them (bsp, gsc, vclog arena, dds) or just the bsp? Also, would there be a problem in renaming the actual pak file itself? Most of them begin with zzz, which has something to do with making it appear as the last pak file? Would it be best to change that don't have the zzz to include the prefex? Obviously, I'd change the files on the site where they get downlaoded from accordingly.

The server runs with PB but I'm not sure what you mean by tabbing out to the PB interface, that said my laptop can't actually handle tabbing out anyway, so maybe that's why. We have aout 15 members with rcon so I don't think the notepad would be best way if this renaming business doesn't work, will just learn the odd map names. ;)

You should NOT rename a .bsp file - as this is the author's map name.

Unless you have permission to edit it, it is customary to leave it as it is. A map name is actually part of the creators work - its what he wants it to be called.

I would have to agree with Tally on this one. By and large, you should have the map makers permission before changing anything.

To alt-tab out, you would need to run the game in a window. Ensure your desk top and game resolutions are the same, set the game NOT to run in full screen, then right click the game icon and set THAT to run in full screen mode. That will then allow you to alt-tab out to other programes.

Alright then, I'll leave the map names as they are. Thanks for your replies anyway.
