Hi guys, I am using windows vista home premium. But then my game continuously crashes when I run it.

Error: DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error. Check the DirectX(R) FAQ for possible solutions.

I'm using DirectX 10 btw. I would appreciate any attempts in helping.

Regards, John

This is most likely because CoD, CoDUO and CoD2 aren't DX10 compatible. If possible, find a way to get DX9 and then play them.

Thx for your post. I've been awaiting one for quite some time already. When I searched for answers to my problem throughout the process of trying to make my game work, I read a couple of posts. One of them actually mentioned of switching DirectX versions (eg. from DirectX 7 to 9). How can I do that?

Regards, John

I'm not entriely sure since I don't have a PC that has DX10, but I would think that you could look through your computer files for some kind of a DirectX control system. Use the serach feature in your My Computer folder

I have pointed many people to a sticky I made about COD2 and Vista here:

http://forums.filefront.com/cod2-problems-errors-help/308097-getting-cod2-work-windows-vista.html

The principles are the same for COD1.

Dont know if it will help you, but its worth a shot.

(perhaps next time, you could try searching before you post, as this question has been raised several times already, and answered)

I have tried following the instructions on the pdf file already. However, no luck for me. The error continues to pop up. And I also did use the search function.

when running COD2, what mode are you running it in? DX7 or DX9?

I have heard that running in DX9 works but DX7 doesnt.

The first game being created to support DX10 is Crysis. This will be realeased last quarter of this year. All others need to back up to DX9, which I am not sure you can do under Vista.

Well i got both XP and Vista instaled, if you want to play cod2 make sure you install DX9.0c as Cod2 doesnt know how to handle dx10 - for now i think its the only solution. it works for me as i dont even have a dx10 card i dont really care about having dx10 - just go to the microsoft site and get the latest dx9.0c april 2007 update iam correct - all/most games should be working right now just iam not sure what too do when u want to play a dx10 game (with a dx10 GFX card)

good luck.

''Microsoft flight simulator X'' does support dx10 aswell...:)
