Hey all... I can't get the download rate on a LAN to go above about 20KB/sec. when downloading maps, mods, etc. I've tried and tried numerous types of config files, dedicated/not dedicated servers, started a console, started the server within UO, and it seems that every tweak does nothing to adjust the allowable download speeds. What can anyone recommend?
seta sv_dl_maxRate "42000" //max download speed 42000 = 12kb
Highroyds, Thanks for your reply, but I'm still having an issue with this. Seems like no matter how big (or small) I make that number in the console, I'm stuck with about 12-20KB/sec download. Ideally, I'd like to have a non-dedicated server on a LAN (no messing with cfg files, just whenever I feel like running one) that my friends are able to join once in a while and it not take forever to download a 4 MB map. I appreciate your trying to help me out with this.
If you dont want to muck about with making a cfg server then you can just make a simple server by starting up CoD:uo and selecting Start Server then place the details in which will give you plenty of options that you can choose for the simple server. Then you just click start. This will make a plain simple server that anyone can join, but the only thing here is that you'll have to type into the console /rcon set rconpassword test (test is where you put your password in) if that doesnt work just type in /set rconpassword test this will make sure that no one can change anything on your pc's server without the password. Hope this works for ya.
Thanks for the info. My original problem still remains, however. I can start the server all right, and everything runs just fine. The only problem is the downloading. It's still too slow. I've gotten some pretty cool mods of the 'net for UO, and would like to share them on my LAN server, but I'd rather it not take 20 mins to download them, you know?
the only other way that I can think of is to point the ones who want to play on your server to the web site that you downloaded from.
OK, I've been browsing some other forums and whatnot, and I've come across something. I found a similar post about LAN transfer rates, and the reply went something like "Yup, downloading is slow; it's a well-known and un-fixable problem. CoD's algorithms won't allow faster downloads than that, regardless of what you put in the console. Use http forwarding." Anyone have any thoughts on that? True? False?
