I have never heard of this problem. Have you checked the disc itself? make sure it isnt scratched or damaged. Have you thought about returning the set to the store for a replacement?

I know how to 'work around it, if thats any good. You will need to manually install the game yourself. This is fairly easy to do.

let me know if you want the 'work around', and I'll post up the instructions.

i know this is very strange. i changed the 1st and 2nd discs at the shop last week and am going there right now again for a complete new expansion pack.when installing the 1st call of duty game, as instructed (i.e. put in discs 1 then disc 2),the game installs up until the point when it asks to put back in disc 1 to finish of the installing. when disc 1 is back in nothing happens.it s like it wont read. i would be very gratefultally if you could pass on the info to manually install as i have run out of ideas (3 of..lol), i just wanna play and its frustrating enough to turn an irishman to drink. pleaze help if possible.

Ok, this is for COD right?

Ok, I dont have the edition you have, i only have the 2 disc edition - but the principles are the same. You will just have to adjust what you have on the discs to suit what I say.

In principle, all that you have to do is to copy the files over to a directory called 'Call of Duty'. This is how:

Make sure you have completely uninstalled the game first. Remember to delete the COD folder that gets left behind.

Once it is completely uninstalled, you can now go to 'my computer'. In your C: drive, go to 'Program Files'. Once there, create a new folder called 'Call of Duty'

Now, insert the first disc. When the menu comes up to install, exit it. Then, go to 'my computer' again, and you will see the COD icon in your ROM drive. Right click it, and then left click 'explore'.

You will be presented with several folders, files, and icons. The one you want is the 'setup' folder. Double click it and you will see a folder called 'Data'. Double click that.

You will then see something like this:

setup.gif

Copy all of these files and folders to the 'Call of Duty' folder you created in your C:\Program Files directory.

The go through each of the other discs, and find the 'Data' folders. If you open them up, you will find the pak files (pk3 files). You need to copy all of them to the COD 'main' folder.

As i said, I dont have your particular edition, so you will have to play it by ear. Just copy all the pk3 files over to the COD 'main' folder.

Once you have done that. the game will be installed. Now comes the clever part. You need to 'register' the product in the Windows registry. I have created a .reg file for you to automatically do this for you.

Download it from here:

REG FILE DOWNLOAD

Now, you will have to edit it first, to get all the correct details in it.

Place the COD.reg file on your Windows desktop. right click it, and then left click 'edit'. You will see this info in it:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision\Call of Duty] "codkey"="XXXXXXXXXXX" "InstallDrive"="D:" "InstallPath"="C:\Program Files\Call of Duty" "Language"="1" "StartMenuFolder"="C:\Documents and Settings\XXXX\Start Menu\Programs\Call of Duty" "Version"="1.0"

the first thing you need to change is the codkey - at the moment it is XXXXXXXX as you can see. simply replace the XXXs with your serial key.

Then you need to change the Drive letter to the one your machine uses. it might well be D:, but if it isnt, change it to the right letter.

The install path should be correct, if you have followed my instructions

The language should also stay the same

Now we have the StartMenuFolder. You have to change this to match what is on your machine. At the moment I have left it at C:\Documents and Settings\XXXX\Start Menu\Programs\Call of Duty - where XXXX represents whatever account/profile you have in use. Just adjust it so that it matches your details.

the version may not be right, as recent editions of COD start at 1.4. You will have to check to see what version the edition you have purchased is at. how ever it is easy to change once you have run the reg file. Just go to Start > run > regedit and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision\Call of Duty. You can edit the version value there.

Ok, once all the details are correct you are ready to run the file. Place it in the COD folder. Then just double click it. This will enter all the details into the Windows registry.

Once this is done, you can patch the game as required. Indeed, to install UO you need the right registry details, so this part of the process is critical to a correct installation.

Hope this works for you.
