It's easier to update pb than that. Just download the pbweb.exe app and run it.

See here:

BTW, I think the required privileges are different between XP Home and XP Pro. Go to the http://www.punksbusted.com forums and do a search on "inadequate" and you'll find pinned topics that tell you exactly what to do.

hey guys, i just got it fixed. they finaly emailed me back. This is what they said: Is there some way to modify my system configuration to be an administrator equivalent from PunkBuster's perspective in XP Home?

We have method now to fix the user rights issues in XP Home O/S systems. I will try to explain what this is doing, and make a step by step walkthrough. More advanced users may see how to modify this method, and I will make some notes on ways to expand this option.

To use this solution, Create a new Administrator Account or a Limited Account WITH A PASSWORD by opening the Control Panels => User Accounts:

1) Log into the computer using a user with Admin rights. Or as the Administrator by rebooting the computer and hitting the F8 key at the beginning on the windows startup screen and going into Safe Mode.

2) Download PsBNTRights.exe self extracting archive that contains the NTRights.exe and the following batch file:

CODE

ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeDebugPrivilege ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeLoadDriverPrivilege ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeSecurityPrivilege ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeSystemEnvironmentPrivilege ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeProfileSingleProcessPrivilege pause

http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/PBNTRights.exe

3. When you run the exe it will prompt you for the path to extract (default = c:\NTRights\

4. Right click the NTRights.cmd and select Edit, replace "Tester" with the name of your user account the you created.

5. Save and run the NTRights.cmd by double clicking on it

6. Click on the game EXE, and choose "Run as...", enter your limited user and the password and check if you can play that now. (note: You need the original game EXE, not a desktop shortcut. If you right click a shortcut and select properties, then click on the "Find Target" button, that will take you to the game EXE.)

Advanced - Scattered reports that this works for some, test it if you want, it will not hard your computer, but may not work.

1) If you have a single user with admin rights, edit the user to create a password in the Control Panel => User Accounts wizard if you do not have one already.

2) Download PsBNTRights.exe self extracting archive that contains the NTRights.exe and the following batch file:

CODE

ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeDebugPrivilege ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeLoadDriverPrivilege ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeSecurityPrivilege ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeSystemEnvironmentPrivilege ntrights.exe -u Tester +r SeProfileSingleProcessPrivilege pause

http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/PBNTRights.exe

3. When you run the exe it will prompt you for the path to extract (default = c:\NTRights\

4. Right click the NTRights.cmd and select Edit, replace "Tester" with the name of your user account and save the changes.

5. Turn off all Anti-Virus Programs and Internet Security Programs, they may prevent the rights from being set.

6. Run the NTRights.cmd by double clicking on it

6. Log out and back in on your user. Now try to play on a PB server. If this works, it's a permanent solution.

We hope to have a better answer soon, but this will get you up and playing at least.

-Stuart

I had to make a new user account and now thats what i have to use for COD.

Great info Kibble17thAB! But that executable and batch file does exactly the same thing as what Apocalypse posted above. That is, it just gives you these privileges:

Debug Programs Load and unload device drivers Manage auditing and security log Modify Firmware environment values Profile Single Process

So why couldn't someone just use Apocalypse's method? Is it because you're using XP Home edition instead of Pro?
