Recently I got DSl (highest one) and have been very happy with it. My ping has been in the low 80s and I have not been lagging at all. Then, last week, my ping spiked up to around 180 and I started to lag like crazy. It's still this way and I don't know why. I am running CoD on optimal settings and my computer is only 8 months old. Besides getting a better connection and a new computer, is there anything else I can do to get this lag/high ping to go away? Any help would be appreciated.

first, i dont think that fixing the graphics would cuz it has nothin to do with online play. You might be entering a server with a high ping, and i also think some players with super high ping can affect the server. I dont think u have the highest one cuz my DSL ping is usally in the 50s or 60s.

vortex22, I would troubleshoot your network problems outside the game because it may not be the game's fault at all. Just do some pings and traceroutes like this from a command prompt:

ping www.google.com tracert www.google.com

Look at the times (e.g. "80ms") to see how long it takes to talk to google.

Then go to the bandwidth sites and do some testing. For example:

Do you think having two other computers on the same line would cause some lag? If so, I think I discovered part of my problem...

Depends if they are downloading or uploading. Also if your behind a router maybe reboot it. Along with your modem. Then get cable. I have 3.5 megabit connection :naughty: :moon:

Others using the same line could easilly slow it down. But I would also check for spyware. Just use adaware, spybot and spywareblaster. That combination is great.

You could have spyware, I was having pings of 200 with 512K:eek: , I got rid of my spyware and back to 30. Anyways, do a google search fo "spywareblocker" "spywarestopper" "settingssentry" all of those will stop anything getting in and this one, "add aware v6.0", will search your puder for any existing nasties. download them, configure them and watch the spyware die. :spank: Hope it helps, Frenchie
