i had been playing the game for a long time. somehow it got uninstalled, so i reinstalled it and it will not work. its fine until the "new game, resume game, etc." screen, but when it gets to that it goes black and wont run anything. activision told me my video card isnt right, but this makes no sense seeing that i had been playing for at least 6 months and have made no changes to my computer. anybody got any ideas?
What graphics card do you have? Which ever one it is, is the driver up to date? Post back with the specs please.
sorry its been a while...my graphics card is an Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller...dunno about whether it is up to date..i havent done anything to it.
There aren't any issues that that graphics chipset as far as i can maintain, so I don't know what Activision are on about. But your problem does sound like there is a graphics problem, and I suspect its the actual chipset itself. Try a reinstall of the graphics driver. This will be on a disc which came with your pc. Or, alternatively download the latest from here: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=1044
i did download the update and installed it to...sigh...no avail. One thing i did notice was that when during reinstallation, when the bar reached 50%, at main/pak1 something popped up saying, failure to initialize(.00000006), click to terminate application...or something like that. could it be that my cd is scratched, that i have left over files from my last installation, wtf is it!?!?! i miss the game, and its getting very frustrating...thanks for your continued help
The error you're getting is a Windows error message telling you the Install Sheild is faulty. Place your Windows XP CD in your drive and run the repair tool.
i found the xp disk but i couldnt find any repair tool...what popped up was something that had 5 options... install xp, install optional windows components, perform additional tasks, check system compatability..i couldnt find it in any of those. if i somehow get install shield working again, will cod be back up, or is there some other mysterious ailment?
could it be that there is something wrong w/ my pak files on the disk? i thought i saw somewhere that if the kbs in the files didnt match up you could have this problem. if so, is there anywhere i could go to download the correct files
I'm very surpirsed you don't have a repair option on your disc, as ALL XP discs I've seen before has it. But you could insert the disc before you boot up, then when you do, the system will ask if you want to repair XP. All your data will be safely backed up. You could check your discs to see if the pk3 file sizes are correct (find the right sizes in the stickies) - but I doubt that they aren't the right sizes on the actual discs. But if the discs are scratched, they might not install properly. Check out the pk3 file sizes in the stickies, or in one of the hundreds of posts I've done about reinstalling COD.
