Okay my brother really did a number on his computer this time. He downloaded some crap mod for CoD and then kept getting error messages.

After "convincing" from my parents (Can't wait until I go to college in a few weeks) I spent an hour trying to figure out what the hell he did. I traced the error message he was getting to Activision's tech support which said its due to a bad file included in a downloaded mod.

I uninstalled everything, deleted all the garbage, and reinstalled.

Now I'm getting completely different errors, and I don't know where the hell these came from.

Any thoughts? I've reinstalled twice. Everything works fine on my laptop.

P4 2.8, 512 RAM, radeon 9200 I think. All drivers updated.

...

Your alive!

*shakes head*

I have no idea what the hell is going on there, but if memory serves you might wanna try popping your Windows CD in the drive, open a command prompt and typing (sans quotes) "sfc /scannow"

What winblows CD, the OS came with the computer. Its an HP.

And yup, the legends are true, I am alive.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention when I hit okay on these errors, the menu comes up, but with no text being displayed. I can hear the clicks of it as I run the mouse around the screen, but I can't actually see any of the options.

Well i don't think its particularly COD related, its somthing going totaly funky with your OS. You'll get this kind of thing with other programs too i think.

I remember this happening to me a while ago and it was a nightmare to get out of.

I think your pretty snookered by the fact you don't have your XP CD :uhm:

Just go a question here, since he doesn't have XP cd, can't you do a system restore?

Doubtful that a system restore would do anything, it only backs up crucial system files, and not what windows considers to be "minor" things like game-related files.

Isn't the mssmp3 thing some kind of mp3 codec thingy... I have it on one of my nascar thunder CD's... :uhm: maybe a coincidence, but you never know...

This is about all I could find, but it confirms about it being for an audio deal with the game-->Clicky!

Not CoD, but It is an bit of a start...

Good to see you again Madman, real good. :bows:

This is a sound driver problem. Uninstall COD completely, remembering to delete the COd folder which gets left behind. Also, do search for COD.ini, and see if that has been left behind at all. Then, reinstall your sound driver (I think you have onboard sound as the dll file relates to that). Then put COD back on.

But if its onboard sound, where do I find drivers for that?

I checked the device manager, no conflicts.

Fixed it. I had CoD installed on the desktop, it wasn't working, so I installed it on my laptop. It worked on my laptop, so I just transferred the game directory from my laptop to the desktop. Works now.
