I'm trying to change what the dead quotes say for a single player mod. I know the file which contains these quotes are in

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\localized_english_iw09.iwd\deadquotes.str

What I have tried is make a new deadquotes.str using notepad I copied the original and changed what was within the quotations

I then saved it as a .str I put it within a folder called "localizedstrings" and then zipped it as a .zip with winrar using normal compression method. I renamed the finished .zip "zmod.iwd"

I put this finished .iwd into the C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\

With the result being

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\zmod.iwd

When I ran COD2 all of the strings in the game looked like MENU_STARTUP_... And WEAPON_BAR. Which are the reference names.

Could anybody tell me how to properly edit the localized strings and what I was doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
