As the title states, I'm trying to completely no HUD the sp game as much as possible save for indicators that are brought up briefly by keystroke (mainly ammo count) and the mission start stuff like the briefing. I'm not concerned about anything that comes on after death or friendly fire either, just the stuff that gets in the way of actual gameplay view.
So far I have managed to remove the compass, hints, messages, grenade & damage indicators, and the sniper hold breath tip. I was hoping setting all the hints in the config file to "0" would leave no tips as well, but apparently not. I of course have removed the crosshair via the simpler game menu method as well.
The things that remain are tips that are very redundant like telling you there are several route options when the compass has more than one star, friendly soldier icons and names when you aim at them, and the stance position indicator.
It appears to me there must be some commands not listed in the config file that have to do with these other remaining items. If any of you could please help me with it I'd really appreciate it.
I could write an autoexec.cfg file for a no HUD sp tweak that others might want to use if I only knew the remaining commands to zero out.

It's really only tweaking not modding, and I just realized I put this thread in the mapping forum, so it appears I made a rather noob mistake myself.
Anyway, what I've done so far is pretty simple. Go to the config.cfg file located in the player profile name inside the Main foilder. First copy and save the entire config.cfg file to another loaction so you'll have the defaults as a backup. Open it with Wordpad and go to these files in it:

You can basically choose either dimension (height or width) and set it to "0", as it will in turn zero out the other dimension (ie: you can't have any width if there's no height). If you only go that far you will still see the pointer, which you can remove via the same method. Don't worry about any of the other commands (range, offset, pivot) as they will no longer apply.
Let me know if you want help removing any of the other items I mentioned. I've played up through the start of The Beginning of the End mission with these tweaks on Veteran, and so far it's not been difficult at all. I just wish I could figure out how to get rid of those last few items.
