I need help with a few remaining items I can't remove from the HUD. These are crosshair names (friendly IDs when aimed at), tips (like several route options when the compass shows several stars), and the stance position indicator.

I have searched through the entire dvarlist and IWD files, and I can't find anything that appears to be appropriate for these items.

by the way anyone know how to remove the score in MP in the top left corner?

yeah, with a mod of the gametype scripts - comment out the scoreboard:

------------------snip---------------- thread maps\mp\gametypes\_weapons::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_scoreboard::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_killcam::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_shellshock::init(); // thread maps\mp\gametypes\_hud_teamscore::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_deathicons::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_damagefeedback::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_healthoverlay::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_friendicons::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_spectating::init(); thread maps\mp\gametypes\_grenadeindicators::init(); ------------snip--------------------

i did this with the clock as well, for a "clear hud" mod I did for a realism clan.

Example of what it does:

clear_hud.gif

As you can see - no timer, scoreboard, compass or nade/ammo indicator. In fact, no nothing!

Yeah, I looked at that one, but it doesn't have any AI or sound mods included. If I'm going to install a mod for COD2, it might as well have as many things as I want in it as possible, so I don't have to worry about moding it further or risking incompatibility adding something else.

well, after looking high and low through the SP files, I only managed to remove the stance indicator and the objectives on the hud (in fact, I can remove the compass altogether).

There isnt a way to remove the friendly crosshairnames (like in MP), and there isnt a way to stop the objective IprintInBold messages in the centre of the screen, as this seems to be hard-coded into the SP engine.

I tried to reduce the width of the messages in my SP config.cfg file, but it always defaults back to its original settings. So, I tried scripting a force Dvar mod, and forcing the changed, but again it didnt have any effect, and the default settings were still in place.

I removed a few extra things like matlehints, grenade hints etc.
Bummer, I guess there will be no mods which exclude the xhair names like in COD then. Still not sure how objectives on the HUD compares to "objective IprintInBold messages in the centre of the screen" though. I take it the imprinted ones are more like the tips they give you like numerous route options, rather than actual objectives?
I tried to reduce the width of the messages in my SP config.cfg file, but it always defaults back to its original settings. I tried that too with the messages in the config file, after that didn't work I added "+autoexec.cfg" to the target line after making an autoexec.cfg for it. What's odd is that then I would see it as staying zeroed (in width or height) in the dvarlist after launching the game, but they still appeared, very weird.:uhoh:
I removed a few extra things like matlehints, grenade hints etc.

Yeah I was able to do that too, as well as the compass & cursor tips (weaps are a bit harder to pick up though), which are also easy fixes. That's why I only asked about the xhair names, stance indicator, and message tips. I guess the only thing I can glean from you is how you removed the stance indicator then? I found it odd too that after removing the compass the stance indicator repositioned itself over to the edge of the screen, part of it not showing. Thanks a lot for digging into it Tally, that was kind of you.;)

to remove a lot of stuff, just dig out the hud.gsc in iw_06.iwd\ui

Find the stance indicator stuff and comment it out - that is, place a // in front of each line of script.

Or

An easier way is to comment out a whole block of script with a /* */

EG

/* itemDef { type ITEM_TYPE_TEXT visible 1 origin ORIGIN_TITLE forecolor 1 1 1 1 text "@Secondary Weapons" textfont UI_FONT_NORMAL textscale GLOBAL_HEADER_SIZE decoration }*/

That will save a lot in key work.
