but when i go to update my cod2 to v.1.2 with the update file it says please verify that the game is installed properly.

so i would like to know if there is anyway of my updating my cod2??

this is a registry problem - the install of your COD2 doesnt have the registry details the patch needs in order to install itself properly.

We need to establish what you have for your details:

1. Go to 'Run' and type in 'regedit'

2. this will bring up the Windows Registry Editor. Find the key for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

3. Now click on the '+' sign to open the tree for SOFTWARE

4. Now click on the '+' to open ACTIVISION

5. Now for Call of Duty 2

You should see something like this:

cod2_reg.gif

This is a properly patched registry entry. You will see on yours some vital entries -

a) the InstallPath - the patch looks for this. It doesnt have to be the default install path (like mine is), but it does have to be valid

b) The MultiEXEString - the patch looks for this. Again this doesnt have to be the default path, but has to be valid.

If you could take a screenshot of your reigstry entry, post it here, I can tell you what to change.

well, there you go - missing all the vital stuff.

Ok, easy to fix:

To create a new entry, right click anywhere below the 'codkey' entry, and you will see 'new' - hover the mosue cursor over it, and you will see a selection of 'keys'. You want 'String Value'. Your new key will show as a REG_SZ key.

When the new 'String Value' pops up, name it with any one of the missing entries:

EXEString InstallPath InstallDrive Language MultiEXEString Version

Once you've created the actual 'keys' you need to enter the info. So, right click on a key, and you will see an option to 'modify'. A popup will appear, and you simply enter the info in the 'value data' box.

Those are the vital values that the patch looks for. Just got to Windows Explorar to get the info for most of them, and for 'version', of course you want 1.0.

Once finished so that your entries look like mine (but they dont have to be identical - you can choose a different installpath and driver for example), you will find the patch has something to look for, and will update COD2 accordingly.

sorry, my bad - you need to enter the details under 'string value' (I was getting confused doing it from memory).

I have updated my original post (in case someone copies it).
