Well I've recently got a new computer, but every time I ran COD2 I got very bad framerates doesnt matter what the detail was set to. So I went back and forth changing settings to see what it did, and I changed the thingy with Direct X to DX7 and the framerate was awesome, and with everything on high. Now because I didnt run it for long when it was set on DX9 is there much difference in quality? I have a Geforce 6100 I thought I would be able to run everything at it's best but I guess I was wrong.

There are some differences between DX 9 rendering mode and DX 7 yes. In DX 7 mode you don't get things like fog, snowflakes and people's faces are not so realistic as in DX 9 mode. That's why DX 9 mode is much more demanding than DX 7 mode. Call of Duty has a Doom 3 engine which is one of the most demanding engines today. And Nvidia 6100 is not high end graphics card and that's why you get poor frame rate.
