Ive just bought the game and am playing multiplayer. But my mx440 wont handle the singleplayer. Activision have reccomended a long list of ati and gforce video cards. If anyone has some time could you reccomend a suitable cost effective card. Many thanks in advance. Gershy
You should let us know what your price range would be. What are you willing to pay for a new graphics card? How much performance are you wanting. Like, do you want to turn the graphics all the way up. Or just have it playable at a good FPS?
you could also list the other parts of the pc, with that card i'm guessing you might need some other upgrades too
To Romeo and FSMDK many thanks for your responses, I want to spend $80-100 on a card. My current system:- cpu intel r pentium r 4cpu 2.4GHz. cpu speed 2.4GHz system Ram 255.5mb operating system windows 2ooo prof build 2195 video driver direct x version 220.127.116.1121 sound card mpu-401 compatible midi device sound card driver version 5.1.2535.0 cd atapi cd-rw 48x24. Once again many thanks for your help
please dont use such a big font on your posts. it doesnt look right, and looks like your shouting.
If your current version of DirectX is 6.1, then it is way behind that which COD2 uses - which is DX 9.0c. But,with your new purchase of a video card, and the installation of COD2 you could bring it up todate.
With $100 or so, you should be able to get one of the ATi 9* range, which is supported by COD2, but dont expect to be able to run it in DirectX9 mode. Indeed, dont expect to be able to buy any card which will support DX9 on $100.
last thing I would say, is that W2K may give you problems running COD2 as you need to have the Microsoft .Net Framework to use COD2 effectively, and this doesnt sit too well with W2K.
also some extra ram would come in handy, like say 512 for minimum
Tally thanks , hope im not shouting to loud. Sorry ive given wrong info, i have a XP prof 5.1 build not 2000. And i have direct 9.0c installed, not version 6. Activision system requirements lab analysised my computor for compatability for call of duty 2, after reading your mail i checked my system, and their search result were not 100%. Thanks for the info on ATI 9* regards Gershy, have a good week.
it also depends if you have PCI or AGP slots for your vid-card. my mobo only has AGP slots for it so it limited me to what card i bought. if you have PCI slot open you can find very good cards from 100 to 150. even with the AGP slot i got a Nvidia gForce 6800--256. this card runs CoD2 fine on average settings-- no Dx9 tho-- guess thats the price you got to pay for higher frames-- the card itself was only 140.00 at the best buy--- i dont suggest going there tho-- go to newegg.com ---best prices!!
I only had AMD Athlon 1.8, 256 RAM and on board graphics, I added 512m and bought GeForace FX5600XT, downloaded an overclocking programme and can run CoD2 perfectly well in 1024 x 768 now SP or MP. cost very little. Depending on how much you want to spend if you look around on the net you can find places that build PC's far cheaper than buying pre built in a store, also having one built to order, if you go for the right MoBo, you can upgrade later, plug and play parts like extra Ram and graphs cards. - easy.
