I dont think you are grasping the point of testing on a non-punkbuster server: if you still get lag, then it cant be punkbuster.
Therefore, updating punkbuster will not solve the problem because it isnt the cause.
@Ganny - he isnt using a router, so getting a new router wont solve it, will it?
I think its clear that your bad ping problem is probably due to over contention on your connection. Please see your ISP.
Okay. I did try to play on non-pb...not as bad spikes, but still game disabling. I refreshed my modem, because it looked like something was screwy with it, and that helped a little bit, but i'm still not getting any fun quality out of the game, because everytime I need to shoot someone it lags. I'll have a talk with my ISP, but I sereously doubt thats the problem. I play other games on the internet that are fine....

How many players are on the server? Because if there are many then that is your problem. I played on a server with 5 guys and no lag and when i played on a server with 20 to 40 i had some big lag. When you shoot someone it may lag because of graphics conflicting with internet it happened to me. Hope it helps :)
I seemed to have fixed it for the most part. I played a whole round with only 1 20-25 second lag spike then just maybe .. 2 more 3 second ones..finally got to play ... For the others that need help. I turned off all my startup programs to disable any extra progs that were open. To do so, go to Start > Run > type in msconfig go to the tab labeled Startup, Click disable all...Check anything that is run from C:Windows ... ( look under the little title labeled command )
hXcsoldierHi, i'm running CoD2 multiplayer, and i'm getting crazy lag spikes. My ISP is fine, I refreshed and restarted my modem and computer, and i've closed all open programs, and even disabled firewalls. Could it have something to do with the patch? or maybe something else. It definately wasn't the server tho..or maybe it was if every server lags that severely...i joined about 20 different servers and same problem..Help would be greatly appreciated, because without the lag, multiplayer is really fun :D
Man i am haveing the same problem and whne i get out of cod2 my computer also lags so i have to shut it down and bring it back up. ~GodSp33d~
Man i am having the same problem to i am getting lag spikes every 5 seconds and i even restored my computer and download cod about 10 times. i also have messed with my graphics and nothing is helping. And dont tell me its my internet because its not and its not my comouter because its not old or has any other problems with any other games. And you know what realy sucks is i messed with my graphics so much i fryed my graphics card doing it and i had to go get a new one and i am still having problems.

If your telling us that it cannot be either of those, then it must be some strange alien influence on your system then :p
lol. Soubds liek your RAM is not allocated properly, lol. Download a trial version of Super Utilities and just run that with most of it's features. May also be background processes, I had the same problem, COD2 closes and I run like a mofo for about 10 mins, lol. Super Utilities is awesome, I was shown it in VET Computer Networking Cert. 3.
