Just upgraded my rig. Amd Athlon64 3800+ AM2 Asus M2N-E MB 2gb ddr2 800 corsair xms Asus x1900xt 512mb 2x300gb seagate 300mb/sec sata raid zalman am2 9500 cooler win xp home all updates newest bios update newest drivers available for all devices. I cant figure out why but for some reason most of my games fear,bf2,cod2 more than others hl2,doom3,quake4 are running slower than they should be based on all the the benchmarks on similar or identical hardware that are floating around the net. I have cod2 no fsaa or anisotropic everything else all the way up. Single player actually runs fluid but i only get about 55 fps avg. it doesnt feel fluid in multiplayer, it feels a little jittery and my frames average around 25-50 fps. Im running at res of 1024x768 vsync off. Heres the kicker, if i turn down graphics, force directx 7 and run at 800x600 or 640x480 i still stay around 30-50 fps. with no change. I tried cod2 patched and unpatched so its nothing to do with punkbuster. I also disabled my network card and started a multiplayer game with no change. It sounds like my cpu but i believe 3800 should be faster than that. I ran prime95 and everest without error. All my temps for video, cpu, and mb are well within norms. Im running everything stock. Any suggestions. Had a p4 3.2 socket 478 2gb ram and x850 pro 256mb agp before and it ran smoother with same settings.
did you try the optimal system settings? and bwt are you sure your psu can support all the stuff you stuffed in the case? maybe the vga doesnt get the power it needs because the psu is overloaded with the other hardware
Sry forgot about power supply. My video card recommends 30A on the 12v rail. I have the antec truepower 2.0 550watt dual 12v rails, 19amp each for total of 38 amps of which i can use 34amps. I also used a psu calculator just to make sure and im wall within power limits. Actually i did notice when i turned everything down kept 1024x768 resolution but forced directx 7 and turn of soften smoke edges i was getting about 70 to 80 fps but it did not feel fluid or smooth like single player was. This was without anyone else in the server and all background programs turned off. And this is both patched and unpatched versions so punkbuster isnt the prob. All of my programs do report that voltages are below what there suppost to be but bios reports them as stable. I dont have any other symptoms that would point to a low voltage problem.
Is your RAID enabled? If so, disable it
Have you set the affinity for dual core to single core when playing COD2?
If not, then here's how to set it up -
1. Run the .exe file 2. Ctrl + Alt + Del into your task manager 3. Click “Processes” tab 4. Find the COD2SP_S or COD2MP_S entry in the process list 5. Right click on the entry and select “Set Affinity…” 6. Make sure only one box is checked. If multiple boxes are checked, uncheck them until only one box is checked.
Both of these tweaks have been known to improve frame rate on AMD dual core processors.
I have the single core amd athlon 64 3800 socket am2, ive read about the affinity setting before but its not an option when i right click under process's. Also i cant disable raid, because my harddrives are running in raid striping mode. I can disable the raid monitoring utility, which i have and it does nothing. Like i said single player runs 55avg fps with everything on except for aa/fsaa. And it runs nice and fluid. even if i am in the 50's or 60's fps in multiplayer it just isnt fluid/smooth. The harddrive light hardly blinks. I cant figure it out. I ran fear last night everything up full max and it actually ran smooth as silk. right now cod2 multiplayer is the only prob.
