Hey Guys, Hope someone can help, I'm down in Australia and can only find very few servers that will aloow me to get onto because of high ping i suppose. Anyway, after about an hour an a half of playing i start getting the lagg, this happens every night, I have turned off my firewall and my anti virus, I have nothing running in the back ground at all. I never used to get this with the first two games, mind you I was in England back then. Any help guys,

I have a problem with that. I live in Georgia / US. I know my system isnt overheating though, my internet was going very slow for a while. Supposed to be 400kb/s, but was going 20-30kb/s. Now I got downloads going at around 400, but all games still lag very badly. I changed to a different ethernet card and pings went down a bit. Its now playable but I still have a ping of 120 or higher on every server I go to.

sounds like an ISP issue. Is your connecton capped? Ie, are you only allowed so much per month? If this is the case, you might consider (if you can afford it) going uncapped.

I'd give you a lenghty explanation about why capped connections cause lag while playing games, but suffice it to say its all about bandwidth sharing and something called over contenton. when this happens, there is a 'lag' on the packets of data going down the pipe to the ATM (broadband) server, and being deslammed.

In the UK, the most notorious ISP for this is Tiscali, where games are unplayable in the evening when everyone is online.

And if you wanner know how I know all this, its cause I was a tech support for BT Broadband, and had access to the monitoring software which told us who was over contending.

Just a few questions... :)

Im using Charter Pipeline, is that capped on monthly bandwidth? What are the cheapest ISP's that are uncapped and have good service? Can u give me a price range?

Ive no idea about US ISP's - Im UK based. Seek advice from the individual ISPs in your state.

Hey Tally, Spot on mate, I checked my supplier, Telstra / bigpond, although I have unlimited download, my speed does drop after a certain level has been met. Apparently they don't offer an uncapped broadband, I might have to wait till May then change supplier ( 12 month contract ). zzzzzzz
