A couple of questions:
what version of AWE is it?
are you thinking of running your own server?
I use awe3b5 and i would use server from the Cod2 game(just for LAN) !

right, well, to get AWE setup is a bit tricky, as you need to decide what you want. You see there are a few choices you have to make, like whether you want to use the merciless blood mods, whether you want to use the stock sprint files, or one of the choices of different speeds that are given, whether you want colored smoke nades.
Stuff like that.
If you want to just use the stock AWE files, and think about adding stuff later, then its farily straight forward:
To run a LAN server, you need to edit the cfg file called 'example' (in the folder 'awe3b5') to run as a LAN server. Add this to the top:
set dedicated 3 //this is the LAN server setting.
Create a new folder inside the COD2 directory. Name it 'awe'. Not in the 'main' folder, but next to it. This is a folder from which you will run your server. In a moment, I will explain how to start up your server from that folder, but for now we just worry about what goes in the new 'awe' folder.
Once you have your new 'awe folder (called an fs_game folder), it should look like this:
As you can see, I have marked both the new 'awe' folder, and the 'main' folder, to show that you dont put the new 'awe' folder inside the 'main' one.
Once you have the new 'awe' folder, drag and drop all the files inside the AWE mod folder called 'awe3b5'. This is what it should look like:
I have highlighted the 2 config files that control the awe mod - these are 'example.cfg' and 'awe.cfg'.
Now, you need to open the 'awe.cfg' file. Go through it, and pick out all the options you want to use. You will need to remove the '//' marks in front of each server setting. These are called 'comments' and having them infront of the setting disables it.
So, for example, you were interested in activating the healthbar. find this:
// Show health bar (0 = no, 1 = yes) (default 0) //set awe_show_health_bar "0"
And remove the '//' marks, and set it to "1" (which turns things on and off in awe) so that it looks like this:
// Show health bar (0 = no, 1 = yes) (default 0) set awe_show_health_bar "1"
That activates the healthbar.
Do this with all the settings you want.
At the very bottom of the 'awe.cfg' file, put in your map rotation. A standard COD2 map rotation looks like this:
set sv_mapRotation "gametype tdm map mp_breakout gametype tdm map mp_rhine gametype tdm map mp_burgundy gametype tdm map mp_carentan gametype tdm map mp_dawnville gametype tdm map mp_decoy gametype tdm map mp_downtown gametype tdm map mp_farmhouse gametype tdm map mp_rhine gametype tdm map mp_leningrad gametype tdm map mp_harbor gametype tdm map mp_matmata gametype tdm map mp_railyard gametype tdm map mp_toujane gametype tdm map mp_trainstation" map_rotate
You could just copy that to the bottom of the 'awe.cfg' file. But you might want to change the gametype settings to whichever gametype you want to play - for example sd - so just change the tdm to sd
NB - Do Not mix too many gametypes in together! There is a bug in the game that prevents this. A Max of 2 gametypes together only
Once you have all the settings sorted, you are ready for a test fire-up of the server.
We will now edit the COD2MP shortcut to fire-up your LAN server.
Copy the MP shortcut and paste it onto your Windows desktop. Rename it something like 'my server'. Right click it, and then left click 'properties' at the bottom.
You will see something like this, taking note of the 'Target' area (marked):
Place your cursor in the 'Target' box, and press 'end' on the keyboard. This makes the cursor jump to the end. Now you need to press the space bar once, and type in:
+set fs_game awe +set dedicated 3 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +exec example.cfg +map_rotate
It will end up looking something like this:
Although the screenshot doesnt show the entire line.
each '+set' is a switch, and you are telling the game to boot from the 'awe' folder, and execute the example.cfg file.
Close and save the shortcut, and then double click it. You LAN server should boot up with all the awe settings taking effect.
Thank you tally, it doesn't look too tricky after your explanatinion at all (i've menaged to put some oder stuff too) !!! :cheers:
