Hi I bought COD4 2 weeks ago (retail disc) but have not been able to install. The key entry and pb install works ok, but when it gets to "calculating space requirements" it halts with Error 1324 "Fail path ? contains an invalid character", followed by Error 1604 "Fatal error during installation". This happens in Typical or Custom installation, either direct from the disc or from a copy on the desktop. Activision support have tried to help, but without success so far. The disc installs ok on my old XP machine, and I have installed other games (Crysis, HalfLife2) on my new Vista Home Premium 32 machine (HP Pavilion 9128, Q6600, 8800GT, 4GB ram). All suggestions gratefully received.
put the disk in your drive, cancel the autoplay when it comes up to install it. Open my computer, right click in the disk and then go to compatibility tab, attempt to install using win xp compatibility and let me know how that goes.
Thanks Merrick I am trying this but when I right click on the disc in My Computer I do not see a compatibility tab. I only get the compatibility tab when I click on the files within the disc. I tried setting the compatibility to XP (SP2) on the autoexec and the fault repeated as before. I will try it on the installer now. Does this sound OK to you? Thanks very much for your help
Nope that did not work either :(. Same fault as before. Have I done the compatibility change as you intended?
sorry m8... forgot a step find the installer on the disk .. THEN assign that the compatibility
Merrick Sorry - that did not work either. I also tried applying the compatibility change to all the applications on the disc root directory and that did not work either.
Sounds like it could be a scratch on this disk. That would suck. See if you can Image your disk and use the image to load it from a vdrive.
Thanks Merrick I will try this and let you know how I get on - could be a couple of days though due to work!
no worries. post up .. let me know.
OK - I created a vdrive, and prepared an image of the disc using Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe- but it only wants to burn to the DVD drive. How do I get it to burn to the vdrive?
