Downloaded several maps today. delta, forest retreat, the town, the rhine, and thor harbor.

One of them had a virus. Since I am not a genius I do not know what it is doing but I am not able to play the game it wipes out your profile and attempts to take over your computer and network. Sweeet! It only make me unable to play the game because gaming computer is not networked but it could be very bad for some people. I found multiple warnings and errors in my ww2 folder. Any others see this or have ideas?

Were any of these downloads in .exe format?

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

Well, if the files aren't executable then I really don't see how they could have infected your system. Most viruses, especially droppers, tend to work by initializing a process which runs on the computer, and only executable files can initialize processes.

Now admittedly I don't know if CoH 'executes' it's mod files, but if it does, quite frankly it shouldn't as that's basically a massive deliberate vulnerability in both the game engine and the player's computer. With most games though, map resource files are just data, so I have no reason to suspect that's not the case here.

Either way I'd suggest running the files through virusscan.jotti.org as a precaution, but I'm thinking perhaps there was another cause. Malware that works on a time delay so as to hide it's true origin isn't totally unheard of, but then again that's just one of a dozen possible explanations.

If you don't have Avast! installed, I'd recommend it. It's standard scanner leaves a fair deal to be desired, but it's on-access and boot-time scanners are effective.

At this point what I'd do is schedule a boot-time scan, restart the computer and let Avast! sniff it out for me.

Mik, Simply put, its not possible. SCAR, RGDs, LUA all scripting languages COH uses, can't be used for any type of malicous activitys.

No COH doesn't execute its mod files, but rather think of it as preferences, Mod files have a higher pref then stock files.

At OP, Where did you obtain these files? If it was from COH Fiels Network Site please PM me which ones so I can analyze and remove the files if need be from the network.

Thanks for the ideas... I will verify the maps I down loaded also I think I could send you the printout of the error file maybe you could make sense of it. It looks game specific to me.
