Is there any way that you could add trenchcoats to the german soldiers so that they would look a little more prepared for freezing weather?

no, not without changing the unit model, re-texturing it, and adding all new animations. And as there are no editing tools released for CoH yet (still), even all that can't be done and implemented ingame.

lethal dosage is always comming through with the answers to peoples problems. i wish nazis wore trench coats... that'd be sweet. hopefully when a russian expansion comes out, they'll have learned there lesson.

well the british and russians wore more great coats than any other nations i can think of, germany wore a heap, but AFAIK only german officers, mostly SS and nazi party members (from the military) wore the leather trench coats. Great coats are actually what most people call trench coats, their basically the same as trench coats but made of wool fibre, and it is these that are issued to line troops, although usually never in enough quantity. I'd like to see great coats on some units of both sides in a Russian expansion, probably in the cheap inexpensive units (equivilent of Volks), as well as British (or better yet Aust infantry) forces for a North Africa expansion.

yeah that'd be super cool but i doubt they'd really do much work on the existing factions, don't get me wrong, i'd love it if they added even 1 more unit to each faction but it's doubtful they'd trench out some aussies whilst making 2 new armies. :P. russian gives us hope though because they're starting from scratch anyways. maybe like the "tier 1" (i'll use that for now) infantry are in standard uniforms and "tier 2" have great/trench coats. i can just imagine a super sick trenched out russian task force behind enemy lines. but you never know. and with russians which MUST come sometime, they'll need a new axis army too so that's another hopeful area for some great coats.

Boy... I never even considered the fact that the next logical expansion (IF there will be one) would contain soviets :D that would be sweeeet. Considering that most wargames in modern times have contained soviet forces one way or another :D

For a Russian expansion, they don't need to add a new german army. The PE are based off an SS unit which served on the Eastern Front until the Market Garden landings, and even in the story for the PE campaign thats evident in the first mission that their resting up in that area and re-equipping. Theres talk amongst verious players that relic might just do a Russian expansion against the Wehr or PE, and if its against the Wehr add a campaign in for the Wehr. But on that note, the German forces still have a lot of units that haven't been implemented ingame yet, especially heavy armour, so a 3rd German army is viable. Since basic Russian conscripts were more poorly equipped, they generally had the great coats during winter as they were easier to manufacture than quilted jackets and distributing blankets as well. And this is evident in a lot of hollywood movies (perhaps a bit over the top though). I'd say the Russian conscripts would have great coats and caps ingame, with the better infantry having quilted jackets and helmets.

i don't think the addition of an allied army without the addition of a new army for the axis would go over very well. and i'd be cool with quilted jackets for low groups, i just want to see a couple of guys running around in great coats :P.

Well it's just that you've kinda got it a tad backwards, it was conscripts and militia that got greatcoats most of the time (when they got winter clothing), regular and the more experienced "veteran" infantry were issued the quilted jackets, and the better winter clothing, as well as helmets, backpacks, and bed rolls were more commonly issued to the professional troops, where as conscripts often got stuck with caps and a blanket.
