So a while back I beat the old single player CoH on a different computer and I installed it on my new one, but never did beat the whole campaign. I got opposing forces today and was all hyped for the new campaigns and when I try to play them it gives me this error saying that I dont have the necessary data files to play. Does this mean I have to beat the first set of missions to advance or is there an error with my "install"?
You don't have to finish the original US campaign to play the OF ones. When you installed OF, did you use the OF CD Key? On the main screen, are the buttons for the OF campaigns greyed out? Your problem is probably either that you hadn't entered the OF key when installing, however then clicking on the campaigns would prompt you to enter it there, so i doubt thats the issue. It's most likely a bad install, so i have a feeling you'll have to uninstall and do a complete clean re-install. Sorry.
I didn't make it!
Hey, I had that problem aswell. It only happen when I started COH:OF with the shortcut because I still had the original game installed. I could only play the Opposing Fronts with the disk. I uninstalled both games but kept all my saved game files, and just re-installed COH:OF and i can open it up no problem now without that error. I hope it is of some help.
Hey there, I get that same msg about "You do not have the necessary data installed...........I HAVE UN-INSTALLED AND RE-INSTALLED BOTH COH AND COH OF ...i still get that msg. Getting pretty angry here towards Relic and THQ etc etc . IE: you pay for something you, go thru the online sh#tfight to bloody play the game then it does not work and low and behold they offer little or no support. So I am hoping some of you kind folks out there may have the answers I seek. thanks in advance for any assistance, and happy gaming
Tobey, where do you get the message about the not having the necessary data? Is it when you tried to play the new campaigns, the original one, or just when trying to play the game? I you could, could you post what version of the game you have installed, what you did when you uninstalled it, and the order of how you re-installed it? Have you created a account online, and what CD keys you've registered online, be it the CoH one, the OF one, or both? I find the almost sure-fire way to fix most issues is this. 1. Uninstall the game 2. Manually delete any and all remaining files or folders left over (you will lose your profile info) 3. Restart your computer 4. Install CoH to you computer, then patch up to v1.71 5. Install OF over the top of this and patch it up to the latest version manually (ie. don't use the auto patch tool), currently the latest version is v2.201. Once you've gone through all that, which probably will take you an hour or two, then you should disconnect the internet from your computer (or block CoH in your firewall), and start the game with you OF disk in the drive. When the game loads up it'll say to insert the disk to verify, click the Verify or Ok button, wait till it does that and you should be able to play all the campaigns and the Skirmish fine. If that all works, then you cna reconnect the internet (or unblock CoH) and try online.
Thanks so much lethal D! I'll try out your way first then post what vers, wnat cd key etc if that does not work. Once again, really appreciate the help.
Hey Lethal Dosage, below is what happens and what vers etc. what happens when I attempt play OF campaigns NB: I bought both COH and COH OF together in a double release" game of the year" pack only 2 mths ago just before end of the year
So i goto play an OF campaign and they are locked ( padlock symbol showing ) i then enter OF cd and it asks for my "coh game of the year disc" i enter this then enter my OF CD code then enter my OF disc it verifies and opens menu, now the padlock symbol has been removed from the OF campaigns menu. I then attempt to play OFcampaign and receive the "you do not have the necessary date installed to play this campaign please ensure the appropriate content is installed
Have now followed your steps and un installed reinstalled etc, install COH -ok ( entered the cd code on for COH cd NOT OF cd code)
install COH OF - takes all of 10 secs , the window with OF graphic comes up with "install", " check for updates" options , it just does it. does not even ask for a cd key ?
after re-install my vers from the discs I purchased is vers 2.101
I have manually patched upto 2.102 but can't find a patch that starts at 2.102 the next one starts 2.103 to 2.201 and will not run as I am at 2.102
Don't know if this makes sense to you but thanks again for any assistance
How odd, since you've got the GOTY edition, which i think is v1.71 or something already, and i've only seen my way work with the original release v1.0 CoH, but i'll see if i can help. I'm thinking your OF disk might be corrupt, i bought the retail version of OF and whenever i re-install it all, OF alone takes close ot an hour on my AMD3500+ and 1gb ram. The fact that it's going so quickly might be a problem with the disk, which could be the same reason why it's not asking for the CD Key. There's too many problems with Relics autopatcher, especially with the last couple of patches which have ended up forcing people to re-install thanks to the autopatcher and Relics screwed up patches, so i recommend downloading all the patches from sites like this one, CoH File Download, which has all the incremental patches and a few of the larger patches that cover a few versions. The only other thing i can think of if completely reinstalling them and patching them up fully doesn't work, then i'd suggest completely uninstalling them and only installing OF. OF has all the CoH data in there as well (with the exception of a couple of Skirmish maps), and so when you install OF, use your OF CD key to install. When thats all done, OF should be fully installed and the OF campaigns activated, load up the game and only the original US campaign should be greyed out, click it and it'll ask for your CoH CD key, in which you should put that in and clikc OK or whatever. If the OF installation fails, or any of the Campaigns still come up with that message about not having the necessary data, i'd suggest there's a problem with the Disk and you should probably take ot back to the store and explain it to them. It's not like it's the first time Relic has done stuff like this, the Australian version of OF is actually an older version then the actual release version the rest of the world got, not to mention Relic and THQ has in the past shipped games without manuas, cd keys, or even the disk! If you want to try elsewhere, the Technical Assistance section over here Company of Heroes – RelicNews Forums, might be of some help and even the TA boys from Relic drop in there too, so you've got a good chance of getting the right help.
Ahhhhh sweet relief! uninstalled and then , well after all my whining, I just needed to install from the OF disc! ( as you suggested ) Thanks so much for your help Lethal D, it was much appreciated. As the town cryer use to say " Alls well at ten bells!"...Ding, ding ding
Now, about my fee.... ;)
