Can anyone tell me how to group or combine squads in order to set them on a common mission? This might be hard to describe, but what I am trying to do is select a few squads to execute one mission as a group and be able to "select"them as one group thereafter instead of as individual squads. Example: a group of 2 engineer squards and three infantry move out as a unit to one area, while another group of one MG and two infantry move out as a group to another area. I am trying to control them as TWO units instead of as eight separate squads.
Well if I understand you correctly: if you have, say, 3 infantry units like (MG, mortor and sniper), and 2 tanks (say, a sherman and croc). As an example if you want to have an infantry group and a Armor group: select all the units for the first group (like all three infantry), use the drag box or while holding shift (I think its shift) click on each unit to be in the group. After all are selected use the following key combination "Ctrl + #" where "#" is any number 0-9. you can repeat the process with the second group, just give it a different number. At that point all you need to do is hit the number on the keyboard rather than reselect all units. Example if the Armor group was formed by "Ctrl + 2", then hit "2" on the keyboard and all the units in the group should be selected.

I do the Ctrl # thing all the time. Always make your artillery battery as one number for quick selection if you find a group of enemies and dont have to move the screen all the way back to your base.
mine is this:
Main fighters-ctrl+1 secondary line( i.e at guns, mortars, machine guns) ctrl+2 arty(nebels,etc.)-ctrl+0 misc(anything i think is important such as FHQs)-ctrl+3-9
I use two methods to organise them, depending on how i am playing that session. Method 1 - All round. #1: Main Armoured group #2: Light Armour (recon/reserve group) #3: Infantry Group 1 #4: Infantry group 2 #5: Pios/Engies/Luftwaffe ground forces #6: Transport for Pios/Engies (if enough pop for one) #7: Mortar (if i build one, including Nebelwerfer) #8: Artillary (including halftrack walking stuka) #9: Specialty units (ie. Bergetiger, etc.) Method 2 - Armoured Blitz #1: Assault Group 1 (some main armour some infantry attached) #2: Assault Group 2 (some main armour some infantry attached) #3: Recon Group (Light armour, Puma, StugIV, etc.) #4: Halftrack specific unit (ie. Quad .50cal, Walking Stuka, etc.) #5-#9: Same as above.
