Today I found out I will be an Armor officer in the US Army after college in May. Now I have to decide if I want heavy (M1 Abrams) or light (Bradleys and Strykers). I'm pretty sure I want Abrams but Strykers are pretty sweet too, lots of adaptability, but theres damn near nothing that can stop the M1A2.

hmm....

cramped=M1A2 Roomy=Stryker

Big ass gun and tons of armor=M1A2 Nice machine guns and other configurations=Stryker

Lots of gas guzzling=both i think.

I think it depends on your taste more or less. I personally would go for the stryker.

I thought Strykers and Bradleys were crewed by the infantry, thus their classification as Infantry Fighting Vehicles. This is just what my buddy told me who's over in Iraq right now, That Bradleys are manned by the actual infantry, and I'm pretty sure Strykers are too.

So I guess that means you'll either be Armored or Mechanized Infantry. I could be wrong, but I'll ask my buddy again to see what he tells me. Anyhow, congrats!

The Army is so diversified right now, everyone does everything. I could even endup with only uparmored humvees. Both Strykers and Abrams get about 3gallons to 1 mile. Thats not a typo, its the worst fuel economy on the planet.

Tanks are cramped and fairly noise still, APCs, IFV's and the like aren't, and their airconditioned too. Not to mention the Light armoured types are faster, and more diverse. If your looking for combat, go Light armoured, if you like sitting on your arse, being responsible for a multi, multi million dollar gas guzzler, and baing bored out of your mind for want of action, for Heavy. Serious tanks have no place on the field after the battle has been won, and nowadays with Spec Ops, and the US' immense air power, most of the battle is over befoer the tank and infantry arrive to mop up, not to mention their worse than useless in most urban combat, especially after the war when it's mostly trying to restore peace and order.

I still like the huge firepower of the M1 120mm main gun. I fired a .50cal Barret sniper rifle at a Veterans Day shoot today, it was so badass. I suggest everyone find a similar event this weekend, there's bound to be arsenals at every rifle range this weekend.

Aka

of you want to get to shoot the hell out of a living human being, go light, nothing like a 25mm autogun ripping a man in 3.. if you want to see people die, your friends die and everyone else die, go light.

If you on the other hand wants to just destroy things from distance without any personal anger or remorse.. go heavy
