Right I've had HL2 and CSS since it was released. I never had any of the others except HL1.

Now my friend wants to get it as well, but I'm unsure about advising him on what to get.

I think he should wait till the MP Pack is available here, and get that.

He wants to just get it now and buy the HL2/CSS pack like I did, but I think that is a big waste, considering the shitfight I've had getting steam to run and update properly in my dialup. He has dialup as well.

Then I got to thinking deeply about this and remember hearing somewhere that if you just have plain HL2, but have CS1.6 you can register your cdkey with steam to download CSS free of charge.

Is this true?

If so I can get the cdkey from my other friend who has never opened his copy of 1.6, and allow my mate to get some real value from his money by spending $40 instead of $100 just so he can play online with us.

HL1 retails, you can't get CSS or HL2 from it.

Only ways you can get Counter-Strike Source are :

1. Buy off Steam (Not worth with Dial-up, you need to download everything) 2. Buy Half-Life 2 Game Of the year edition Retail 3. Wait for Counter-Strike Source Retail which will be released 19.10.2005.

4. Buy HL2 standard.

He got it yesterday for au$50, overpriced imo, but I wouldn't pay $20 for it...
