I am wondering why WW2 games have been so popular. I am absolutely fascinated by the time period so the accuracy of CoD really attracted me. What about the rest of you?
well i like it because i allready know the weapons used(most anyway) from other games like mohaa and DoD so i only needed to adjust to the games different playing style. plus the single player is one of the best iv seen. lots of fun and involving without geting monotenes.

because i myself am a genuine world war 2 buff...so why not ? plus i think cod is as close to realism that ww2 would have been. i think that is why cod is quite ground-breaking in someways and is reaping its rewards for it.
CoD is the best WWll game out there its, simplicity and ease to play make it ridiculously addictive
Maybe because WW2 was probably the most explosive war ever? :P
i cant get enough of WW2 and vietnam games, i just love them so much :D
I think that WWII was the best war gameplay wise (No guys, this isn't a flamebait, let me explain). You have the first world war or earlier wars and those have only bolt action rifles (or muskets if you go back far enough) and fixed machine guns. Now some people would like that, but not most.
Then you have games based on wars after WWII and the farther you get the more high tech the weapons get, which make it a lot easier to hit your opponent.
WWII based games on the other hand have a good blend of of all kinds of weapons imo. They still have bolt actions, but also smg, sniper and one shot rocket launchers. I think that with that set up you reach the largest public.

very good points mentioned indeed. i would have to agree with you on all of them.even world war 1 doesnt really interest me as much as world war 2 and the major events that led up to it.funny what can happen in between a gap of 20 years that will forever change the course of human history. the only vietnam game i've ever played was 'Nam 75 on neo geo lol. thats really the only vietnam-based game i've ever been exposed to. what other games are there on the pc that are based on that war ? i'd like to check it out.
theres, Vietcon, battlefield veitnam and i dont know any others.

i agree with u 100%
I think the reason why there are so many games based around WW2 is because it was a horrific war with every form of fighting ever devised (land, sea, air, guns, hand2hand, kamikaze, mortars, mines and so on) there was also new disturbing methods of getting rid of your enemy (gas, POW camps and torture) plus its really the first war where the media played its part in how people looked at the war around them.
I think we keep seeing games because people don't want to forget or don't want us to forget what happend and this is the easiest way to remember sounds weirdbut its true.
