so crytek and EA announced reacently crysis warhead! this is from cryteks website:

Maximum freedom, maximum explosions and maximum Psycho! Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) and award-winning independent studio Crytek today announced Crysis Warhead® – the parallel story to Crysis, one of the most critically-acclaimed first person shooters and PC games of 2007. Shipping exclusively for the PC this fall, Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek´s Budapest studio, and is built on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek’s CryENGINE® 2 technology. “We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis.” “The best result of a partnership that we can ask for in the EA Partners program is when a world class independent studio like Crytek chooses to continue to work with us,” said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. “Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise. We could not be more excited to be working with Crytek to launch another hit with Crysis Warhead this year.” In Crysis Warhead, players will don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as ‘Psycho’, one of the most memorable characters from Crysis. More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players will experience Psycho’s parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho’s Nanosuit is just as capable and he’s equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new, exciting single player campaign, Crysis Warhead will also feature new multiplayer content. Stay tuned for more details this summer. Crysis Warhead has not yet been rated by the ESRB or PEGI. For more information about the game, please visit www.crysisthegame.com.

I cant wait, its supposed to be released this year, and will be amazing, featuring a new grenade launcher, new dual-wieldable SMGs, and two new vehicles, the ASR (advanced assault recon) and a hovercraft (dont we already have one of those?) Cevat Yerli also hinted at a new suit mode! the game will feature better particle effects, and many other awesome graphics improvements. it is also supposed to be able to run faster due to new optimization!

A few new guns and a couple more vehicles. Rather a poor line of additions for an expansion pack that's likely to cost the same as a full retail game. Although admitedly if the mods for crysis work with it I may get it just for the engine optimisation, (something that really should have been done with the first Crysis anyway mind you.)

So, it's a standalone addition...... that will be no doubt retail at a price similar to Crysis when it was released.

A whole new game set on the other side of the island that we've already fought on showing, most likely, another interpretation of the story that we've already been through, with weapons that we've mostly already used. It's a sneaky way of reusing the majority of their assets, but personally I don't think it qualifies as a whole new game, especially since some expansion packs have delivered more in the way of weapons, vehicles, and plot than this looks set to do.

Personally I found Crysis to leave on a bit of a cliff hanger, I don't want to know what went on on the other side of the island I want to know what happens next. Baring that I want to be dropped into a different part of the world to kill some more human opponents since that was the best part of the game.

Same engine, same weapons (mostly,) same plot from a different angle, same nano-suit thingy (not that I'm complaining about that mind.) It is, from the sound of it, basically Crysis done over again. And the thing with Crysis is that the aliens are only that interesting the once over, the pretty glowing bits and the 'holly shit' only has that impact the once. I rather fear we know what's coming.

Of course I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised but I'm not optimistic.

i agree, fighting the NK was the better part of the game, but i still think warhead will be fun. and i too want to know what happens next. crysis is supposed to be a trilogy, and i dnot think this is counted as one of those three. at this moment, cryteks Budapest studio is working on warhead, while their Kiev studio is working on an "unannounced project".

It'll be abit like the Half Life series. Episode 1 and 2 didn't add anything new but a continuation or the story, and people didnt complain about that. Crysis was incredibly fun on the first five playthroughs, but i really want to know what happened to the other characters. Maybe phsyco found something we didn't find?

Well, once you're aboard the Aircraft Carrier near the end of the game, you get off the VTOL to see one of the alien craft being moved by a crane, which you're told that Psycho "bagged" before everything went SNAFU.

yeah, personally i wouldnt mind a small game that follows prophet too, since his story seems more mysterious (crazy alien gun anyone?) although along with warhead that would be overkill.

Hmm, I have mixed emotions. First off, I think that much of the importance of Crysis was the discovery process. I mean, going through fighting Koreans, knowing that something bad was out there getting people, and slowly finding out what it was and discovering what it was capable of . . . but playing it through again as a different person doesn't change that. The mystery and discovery of it will be lost. I'm sure something will attempt and compensate for this, but it happens.

As a side note, the second I saw "new dual-wieldable SMGs" I thought Halo.

Still, I think it could still be fun and I will definitely get it to see what it has to offer. First thing that came to mind was AvP2 and Primal hunt where it adds to and explains more of the story (Yeah, I'm old school haha). I enjoyed that. And perhaps this could be good too. We'll see. I'm still with others though, I want to get ON with the story, not go back again. That cliff hanger needs some explorin'!
