No, these aren't excerpts from my darkest hours, but rather my fascination with the addictive new game Crysis, so don't call the Crisis Clinic!

This game is rather surreal of course and some of the mandatory challenges of Far Cry seem to be gone with the powers of the suit, but what the heck, I forgot about that the first few minutes into it. I have to wonder if the suit failing while free falling was an omen of things to come though. I was beside myself like a kid at a Saturday matinée pretending to be a combination of 4 superheros with each selection of suit powers. I can't wait until the Invisible, Flash, Iron Spiderman takes on the giant alien spiders!

I did find a few inconsistencies in the physics and AI, some of which are similar to that of Far Cry, but worse in the case of hitting people while driving. Occasionally the Fatboys in FC would stop you dead in your tracks like hitting a redwood tree, but never did I suspect this from 5' 8" North Koreans. I also found it odd a mere assault rifle laying on the ground can send a vehicle erratically swerving out of control.

The AI seem to be a bit too oblivious to your presence at times. I was easily spotted holding one of their buddies by the neck in cloak mode in Divided we Fall at night, whereas I could walk right in front of another at the command post holding his bud in broad daylight undetected. In ways this had the feeling of a beta demo, aside from the aforementioned, there was texture flickering as bad or worse than FC's.

Still though, despite a few minor annoyances the game looks to be a sure buy as many have anticipated, including myself. Delta will no doubt be the only level I'll feel really challenged with but I can live with that. I am now even more anxious to build a new high end gaming rig with this game's photo realistic graphics. Just the day/night cycle itself was quite a refreshing change from the static sky of FC.

OK, here's those videos I mentioned. The first a fairly quick run through the demo with the non fighting scenes edited out for a smaller file size and flowing experience. I used a combination of strength, stealth, physics exploits, and a 4x4 to speed myself along. The second is purely for fun engaging in stunts with physics. I just may hold the record for unmodded flying car distance!

Too easy eh? Play it on Delta like I did and the AI can often spot you moving crouched in cloak mode. And I think there are more enemies that come to re-enforce points when you get discovered [in Delta mode there are I think twice the enemies that come to help out the others].

Videos already! Excellent work Omen. The outtakes video is awesome.

Thanks n88tr, I did play on Delta, you pretty much have to for realism (Korean language) and challenge. Even then you need to force yourself to use the weapons more than the suit or it's too easy. Both of these videos if you notice they are speaking Korean, so obviously it's Delta.;)

I don't really play it like in the video. That method was to keep the video file size down and avoid lots of Fraps lag while shooting moving targets. I can play OK full screen with my P4 3.0GHz, X800XT, 1GB RAM spec at 1024x768, all Low except Med Textures and 2x AA with about 40-45 FPS ave. With Fraps on though I go to windowed mode at 1024x640, use half size capture at 25 FPS, and average about 18-20 FPS.

The places I get the most lag are the jamming device post and the command post. I got the feeling it was due to more AI in the area. Driving the boats I also got lots of lag and the targeting system they use is much harder than Far Cry's boats.

Yeah I should go play on delta, the koreans sound unintentionally hilarious with their english. I'm pretty sure they don't sound like that real life. Who the hell did crytek hire to voice them?

Yeah, Delta is the only way to go with this game. In fact I think they should have dropped cloak mode and quick saves for Delta. I've noticed quick saves in this game are almost as buggy as they were with Far Cry. It doesn't mess with the HUD but it can defeat a call for reinforcements once one is loaded. Lately I've been forcing myself to play with no cloaking, silencers or quick saves for more challenge. I just spent a fair amount of time flying one of the choppers after learning how to use Sandbox 2 a bit. Loads of fun but I'm getting some stutters with it lately. I think it's from leaving too much AI to kill with it and bypassing checkpoints to get to it. Now I need to learn how to place a patroling enemy AI chopper so I can have dogfights.

Maybe it's just me, but Delta is the hardest mode possible, yet I find it very easy to outwit the enemies. I hope Delta is harder in the full game.

BTW, Crysis has gone gold.
