Ok boys and girls, they did it. the man came in and shut us down.... So, in the aftermath of the madness and spite-ridden bile that was the melee thread, let us look back and reflect. What did you all think of it? Did you like it? Did you loathe it? Could you care? I personally loved it, it really helped me blow off steam....
I loved melee and it really helped me blow off steam. I created a thread like this to get it back with a poll and all, and they closed my thread.

i'm not trying to get it back, i just want people's opinions on it....
I don't really know. I mean, I can't flame for shit, because my english is not good enough. But it was always nice to read the threads and posts...
I pretend to do stuff.

I normally only read the melee posts, I rarely posted in it. I liked the melee when I first saw it not long after I joined, but it became less and less of an interest to me. Its a shame to see a forum go, but i'm not crying over the loss of it. It became less and less of an interest to me really.

that man was me... [QUOTE=]So, in the aftermath of the madness and spite-ridden bile that was the melee thread, let us look back and reflect. What did you all think of it? Did you like it? Did you loathe it? Could you care? I personally loved it, it really helped me blow off steam....
ok. allow me to share my views on the melee, and then allow us to put the thing behind us and move on with our lives and allow gamingforums to move forward without the "madness and spite-ridden bile" permeating everything.
i enjoyed the melee. you know i did, i was the most frequesnt poster in that cess-pit. so, why the hell would i choose to remove a forum which i frequented on a regular basis? The Melee was great for 'blowing off steam', for trying to out-wit others with increasingly vulgar comments on sexual preference or (lack of) intelligence.
i started to notice the melee effect other forums. things which happened there were dragged into other forums as people who came off worse in a 'flame war' wanted revenge on those who caused them harm. people began to take things seriously, and i have seen many threads and posts were melee references and undertones are dragged into play. this was unacceptable.
what was also unacceptable was the habit some people had of quoting posts in the melee as a basis for attacking the author. i refer to the 'fucking moron' thread, where a comment by Octovon in The Pub became the focus of ten pages of racial hatred in The Melee.
if our members were able to use the melee for how it was intended; blow off steam, have fun and flame each other knowing full well that it meant nothing, then it would still be here and we would all be enjoying it still. i felt a spirit of camaraderie grow between melee regulars and watch with interest as people like j0n d0e and Trojan_Ripper took it in turns to insult each other. neither of these members were the type to take things personally, and if all people who posted there could be like that i wouldn't have had it removed.
good night melee, sleep tight. it was fun whilst it lasted, now lets get on with things shall we?
I liked that thread about me, 'fucking moron' actually got me to get one of my friends to join. I don't care if people attacked me verbally, it was a blast, and you took it away.
that one was an example. there are others i could have mentioned instead. it isn't the fact that the thread got dragged into melee, but the fact that you could have taken offence to that happening.
you might not care if people attack you verbally, but it matters to me that people were taking things seriously in there. the fact that one of your friends joined to defend Canada vs Us just goes to prove my point that it was a breeding ground for hate. it is unlikely that you guys who argued in there about which 'country is best', will go for a beer together, yet myself and say, Irrelevant or Trojan_Ripper very easily could, and have a good laugh at the experience. that was the difference between the melee it was and the one it should have been.
i'd like to hear what others think of this subject.
