I don't understand the concept of the Castes such as Earth Caste, Fire Cast, Air Caste and Water Caste. you only seem to see the fire cast in action. What does each cast stand for ? i think Fire is regular and Air is like air fores and fleets.

Anyone got answers for me ? :(:(

I can help. ;) I'll make it clear... Earth Caste: Basicly the general engineers and production caste, that build everything... Fire Caste: Military forces that defend and expand the Empire using force. Water caste: Merchants, politicions, diploymers and usually the people that trade and discuss with outsiders. Air Caste: The tall lankey ones you find on THQ's Fire Warrior. These fly all the T'au aircraft. Ethereal Caste: The Ethereal Caste is basicly where the Ethereals hang around.

The Tau originated as several tribes on their homeworld. There was, and still are no set standard for the Tau in general. They are all subspecies. (Following is from Wikipedia)

The Fire Caste are the soldiers of the Tau Empire. It is their duty to protect the other castes. They are slightly shorter and physically weaker than, but as broad as, a human. They have relatively larger muscles when compared to those of other castes. They see hand to hand combat as barbaric and often entrust it to the Kroot their close combat auxiliaries skilled in jungle fighting.

The Earth Caste is primarily made up of farmers, labourers, and technicians; responsible for building the machines, cultivating the food, and erecting the dwellings that allow the Tau to survive. The Earth caste also includes artisans, scientists, and engineers. Members of the Earth caste are stout of build, and tend to have calloused hands and a pragmatic outlook on life.

The Water Caste is made up of merchants, diplomats, and administrators. They are responsible for maintaining effective interaction between the castes, as well as communicating with and supervising the integration of alien species into the Tau Empire. Members of the Water Caste tend to be taller and more slender than other Tau, and their features are softer and more expressive. Water caste Tau will frequently adopt mannerisms and cultural habits of the races they deal with, although this is often done to promote communication with other races.

The Air Caste of the Tau traditionally functioned as messengers, but now fill the ranks of the Tau Navy, working as pilots and starship crews. The Air caste lives almost entirely off-world, and as such have developed long, slender limbs, with a skeletal and muscular structure of reduced strength. Prior to the unification of the Tau castes, the Air caste were said to possess membranous wings, allowing them to glide on warm air currents. While it is doubtful that any modern Air Caste members ever soar under their own power, they still retain a vestigial flap of skin between their arms and torso, indicating that they once had wings.

Aun is translated as either Ethereal or Celestial, and describes the mysterious Tau subspecies that ended the intertribal warfare of the Tau and established the doctrine of the Greater Good. The Ethereals are the leaders of the Tau, and appear to combine the roles of priesthood and royalty in Tau society. Ethereals resemble the Fire and Water Castes in build, but are marked by a diamond-shaped ridge of raised bone in the centre of their foreheads. Ethereals are obeyed without question by the other castes, and the Imperium suspects that this control is the result of a latent psychic or pheromone-based power. It is not unknown or even uncommon for Ethereals to become adopted into a caste, dedicating themselves toward leading that group in particular. This has often been met with approval by the senior Aun who believe it allows more in-depth leadership of the infrastructure.

Sorry about all that, but I thought we needed a more detailed explanation about the Tau.

(This was badly modified from Wikipedia)The Cadres are different Fire Caste forces, or legions, and are similar in size to Imperial Guard companies. Most of the Tau in Cadres are from the same Sept, like D'yanoi, T'au, and Bork'an, and can add Kroot, Vespid Stingwings, and Gue'vesa (Human Helpers) to the Cadre as well. That enough?

When Tau wer a primative race different tribes dissagreed with each other,SO. One group moved up into the mountains and learnt to build and construct thing, they became the Earth Caste. One group moved to the (some place) where there were air vents in the ground and they learnt to use these and built means of flying, Air Caste. One group went somewhere else and they had no real means of surviving, so they learnt to trade with other tribes, Water caste. the last goup stayed in the plains an became warriors to survive they became fire caste.

one time the fire caste decided to attack a earth caste fort to take thier stuff. one night a stranger approached the fire caste leader and told them about the greater good and that they should work together for it. one of there people approached the leader of each group and they combined there abilitys.

the stange people we the Ethereals, they are the real leaders of the tau.
