The Chaos race seems way too OP. I have no idea about their disadvantages, particularly over the Space Marines. It seems that everything is just better about them. higher damage rates, more powerful units, a really strong uber, really powerful commanders, the space marines dont really stand a chance! Please somebody prove me wrong, i want to know whats bad about chaos.
For starters, all their daemons can be countered with SM heroes and grey knights. Their marines don't get missile launchers or flamers, when they use "fury" or whatever it's called when they turn pink, they take more damage. Their infantry is particularly weak, almost on scale with guardsmen. Their assault troops don't have melta bombs, but have flamers and speed packs. Can't think of anything else.
Spam heavy bolters and Hellfire dreads.
To be honest I'd say that chaos has one singular major advantage over SM - the builder and forced labour. Otherwise SM tend to outperform them. Of course overstatement but you get the picture. The SM|Chaos MU is actually quite a balanced one. I'd probably recommend assault marine harass.
Evil never prospers! Well, not being able to deepstrike Dreadnoughts and Assault Terminators is also a drawback.
One of the larger issues with chaos, in my opinion, is lack of potent vehicles. Aside from being able to field a pair of predators, their defilers are fairly easy to destroy. In playing marines, I normally split the heavy weapons in a squad to two heavy bolters and three missile launchers. Two squads of marines armed as such can rather easily scrap a defiler in two to three weapon cycles. The chaos troops are just not as mobile as a typical space marine army. I have to concur with above about the massive potentials of deep striking along with some of the fast attack choices. Everyone laughs at the landspeeder, but build ten and have them concentrate fire? Kiss infantry and even some buildings goodbye. As an afterthought, other races do fairly well against chaos, particularly the Eldar. A seer council with a farseer, throw in some warp spiders.. Well, you get the idea.
Just a tip next time - shoot with defilers :)
You could say that marines have a similar weakness - they don't have units with monster_high armor. Still I find it interesting that most people seem to mention tier 3, 4 with most of your counters. While imho the race discrepancies are most important in tier 1 or early tier 2. Your ten landspeeders are nice, but all the enemy has to have (if eldar) is two fragons squads, two immortals, two of any dedicated AV infantry and your speeders are dead.
That's not even mentioning what would happen with them against the tau. If you have 10 speeders, the tau will have a minimum of two upped stealthsuits (that means automatic disable for two of the speeders) markerlights and firewarriors.
It was never good to mass the early tier vehicle. Be it the old falcon, landspeeder, wartruk etc. (I'm not talking here about vanilla prism spam, that's a different thing entirely). While the DPS output of said vehicles was high, they have problems with dedicated counters.
Again, chaos is extremely strong in tier 1+2. Raptors are highly potent eco harassers, the lord if you decide to go him is a very good power machine, cultists are very good tie ups. And in t2 they have the godly sorcerer with his shackles, zerkers and marine stealth. That's imho the tier that chaos should really mop up. As it get's gradually more problematic for them after that.
There's a counter for ANYTHING out there. A large portion of it just depends on the individuals playing it. I know I play differently dependant upon partner in games, also as well as dependant upon race. I've seen every race take a beating as well as hand one out, and there's always an example to counter someone's opinion. *shrug* Overall, there's a pretty decent balance set up, I have few gripes about one race over another.

umm.... maybe your thinking of the chaos lords ability,
the furious charge ability the marines, raptors, and cultists have reduce damage done and i believe increase melee damage.
Chaos used to be insane in vanilla, then they got rid of all there fun toys (infiltrating with rockets made an excellent base killer ^__^)
There not overpowerd, just change your strategy towards them ;)
I thought that it made them do more damage but at the same time they take more damage. I'll have to check that one.
