Each Chapter is different in certian ways, the gene-seed that is planted into a certain chapter is from their Primarch this happens at a young age and changes there DNA to make them look simmerler to their Pirmarch, they can also share the strengths and weakness's as well. The Primarchs where the leaders of the first Space Marine legions back 10 thousand years ago when the Great Crusade was on. However after the Horus heresy, more than half of the Legions had turned to Chaos and each sides primarchs where I'ver dead, missing or had turned into Chaos Deamon Princes. Chapters also fight in different ways, some with certain believes of the Imperial Creed and some are more radical than others. The gene-seed can also have very radical changes on the chapter, the Space Wolves for example share the gene of Leman Russ, a wolf like man. Now when the gene-seed is put into them they slowly grow thangs and become more hairy in non human areas, somtimes it can do to far though and end up turning a Marine into a wolve like figure. Another example would be the Blood Angles (and all chapters that share the gene) whoms Primarch, before his death at the hands of Horus somehow scared this last moment into his Gene. After the battle of the Emperors Palace, the Blood angles were at a heavy lose and needed to extract more Gene-seed, for this they needed their Primarchs gene, which they used to planted into the future marines. However the side effect was in battle they would go into somthing called 'The Black Rage' where the gene takes them into a flash back, thinking that they are there Primarch fighting Horus and witnessing their death.

In DOW, the chapters are all the same, just a color preference I'm afraid. But in tt it's much different. Each SM chapter adheres (to a greater or lesser extent) to the Codex Astartes written by the relentlessly dull Robute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines. The Blood Angels are frothing loonies, the Flesh Tearers are worse, the Dark Angels are arrogant fools desperate to cover up their secrets, the Space Wolves are viking/wolfmen who don't listen to anyone, probably because nobody can be bothered with them, the Imperial Fists are puritan killjoys, most other chapters have their little quirks. There are about 1000 chapters, but only a few have been cataloged by GW, so you can make up your own from the book..

PS, Blood Ravens are a rubbish chapter made up for DOW that have no history or real meaning. I mean, what do they do for the game now? After the first DOW they should have just dropped them...

Just dnt think the Blood Ravens were a good move, no real mystery to them. There's no tragedy to them like all the other chapters. Tnks 4 the advice..

Actually its believed the Blood Ravens are related to the Thousand Sons legion. Thousand Sons have taken a interest in them and what with both having a large amount of Pyskers and need for knowledge. They are believed to be the Thousand Sons of stayed loyal.

It's assumed that the bloodravens are made from the TS geneseed. Their structure, psycher prevalence and a penchant for old relics seem to indicate this. Also that they have an unknown primarch and the Word bearers lord called them brothers...
