my attempt to beat th Hyperion peaks as chaos was not a glorious conquest to say the least, the first two times, i got my head handed to me on a silver platter until i applied the pincer attack, for one reason or another it worked. I just used my defilers to artillery the hell out of the first base then swept through the meager defenses of the north and north east areas, from there i set up a sizable defense on the north and began an attack, but i sent my heavy hitters in from the weakly defended southeast, while the battle for the north raged on, the units in the middle got confused as to which area to go to and simply danced back and forth for my units allowing them to easily be overcome. This worked well for me, but im not sure of how well this would work overall, seeing as it worked 1/3 times and is probably a rare event. However it does provide an opening for your heavy hitters to annihilate production facility's, which is easily the most important goal of the mission.
I played hyperion peaks on hard with chaos 4 times agianst Orks and lost 4 times, those useless cultists are a lath!
However i had two daemon prince's as my lord had ascended and had most of my honor guards yet still got wiped out, not surprising really with two 2 squig's stomping me and then when i do kill them thay come back agane a few minuts later!!!
Oh and shall i mention the looted leman russ tanks? 4 of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the hundred of orks in betwean.
I only destroyed one base befor i was wiped out.
Yeah, I took it on as eldar against orks. And the 'squigs were a problem. Still - if I remember correctly, the ai doesn't build anything on hyperions peaks, more or less allowing you to constantly draw out hurt retreat and repeat
I think the only thing they build is killa kans and squigs.
I didn't make it!
When i was attacking one of the bases i saw the ai rebuild its looted leman russ tanks and thay were rebuilding squads, i know because i kept being attacked by Flash Gits, i kill everything thats green then a few minuts later thay come back for more, that and the repeated visits from squigs and looted tanks wearing me down, i know this mission is about speed but i didnt have this kind of difficulty with SM or IG.
It's not necessarily about speed, just really good micro I'd say, you're out numbered but you have all the time you need. So if you take your time and pick them off one by one, you're bound to win eventually.
