I want to know what your favorite anything from the title or everything from the title is. Technically the title implies what's the strongest technically. Also let me ad a category. To unit I'll ad another category called uber - i.e. for the unique units.
Thus Strongest race: Tau -reasoning: As a race they probably have the best capper unit, a number of viable strong harass/raush strategies, possibly the best commander and ranged t1-t4 unit. Not to mention that this t1 unit scales and never requires a larger form of swapping or in squad upgrades as seen in the eldar, or orks for instance. To it coupled with the bugged pathing, the tau reign supreme alongside with a number of slow down options. Their transport removes a set up for the FW more or less, and they have a very nice and gradual tech progression as opposed to all the other races.
Unit: Stealth suit - The stealth suit opens up with being the possibly best capper in t0. While mainly noncombatative until t2, it still retains a great mobility, speed and survivability trough stealth. On top it provides the much needed sight radius for firewarriors. And once you hit t2 all the fun starts. A stealth AV/Ab unit would be strong in itself already. But the stealth suit also has it's jump to top it making it a perfect gen striker and the grenade that the unit gets is almost crazy with it's ability to possibly disable a number of ubers as well including the lith.
Uber: Avatar Not much can be said to this. The avatar is one of the better ones in combat and on top of that offers such a giant plethora of bonuses that strenghten and enlarge the whole of the eldar army.
Commander: Tau commander Fast, ranged, high dps, JUMP!, virtually unkillable in CC due to his leaping combat anim, snare trap, aimed shot, great AV+disrupt t2+, totally murders morale in t1.
It all depends on what you like, and I like Orkz best. I agree with you on avatar, but everything else with the eldar is to damn hard to use at first for me. The Tau are my second fave, followed by Space Marines. Want a fight? I can't be orkz on multi (because I only have DC) so I be Tau online.
Best race: Space Marines - High armour, ranged damage and morale. Standard squads can be upgraded to counter anything, are superior to their counterparts of the other races (Chaos Marines, Fire Warriors, etc) Have very large vehicle arsenal. Evryone knows that Grey Knights and Terminators own, orbital bombardment pwns. Best unit: Bloodthirster, nice killing moves, can kill anything in the game exept for teh nightbringer and deceiver who are inmortal . Best commander offcource force commander due his awesome battle cry and bombardment powers and because he pwns evry other heroe in the game with ease exept for the warboss (who is unlocked much later) and chaos lord (who is more expensive)

Race- Tau or Necrons. Tau have great firepower over long distance, but lets be honest, Necrons are STILL imba, and you can ressurect your whole army using the commander who has a whole range of special abilities at his disposal. Unit- Warp Spiders. They can warp, are extremely effective against infantry and heavy infantry, and they have AV grenades. Uber- Avatar. Wraithcat pretty much said what I was going to say. Commander- Tau's commander probably has to be the best, but only when you get him fully upgraded. At full upgrades he becomes a anti-everything platform, and add to the fact that he has snare drones and he can jump makes him pretty badass.
race: eldar unit: warp spiders commander: warlord gorgutz why: the eldar race is highly effective against all units with the firedragons for vehicles and buildings, the dark reapers for infantry, the warp spiders for just about anything within range, the howling banshees for close combat, not including the vehicles and that the warlocks detect infiltrated plus with the webway gates u can cloak ur turrets and buildings warpspiders because once u upgrade them with everything they're completely universal soldiers, once fully upgraded they're hard to kill, can go against all enemy units including vehicles and buildings with out using their haywire bombs and they can teleport quickly unlike terminators. and gorgutz because once he's fully equipped he's flat out unstopable
Race: Tau Reasons- nice gradual techtree with plenty of long range firepower and fast moving raiding and abilitys to slow down the enemy. Unit- Basilisk, realy just because a single earthshaker shell can pretty much level anything, regardless of wether your a guardsmen or a force commander Uber-Dais of destruction, i chose this simply because its special ability can annialate anything it touches when used righ and when flanked by 2 ravengeers it is unstoppable. Commander- Sister of battle cannoes, she may not be the most powerful combat-wise but her acts of faith simply make her wicked, especially when in the campain you can give her the emperors blessing and the rosarius, making her invurable.
