I wonder if I can sue EA and DICE for mental anguish at this point....or at least kick someone from over there in the nuts.... Mine keeps locking up about every 30 seonds or so during the menu, loading, and game screens in single player mode. Sometimes I get lucky enough, that it'll lock-up and then flash a blue screen with nothing on it and reboot my system...I like to think of it as a feature more than a bug. I've updated and/or disabled everything in the posts and from EA's "help" lines, but still having massive problems. Hopefully either ATI or EA will get this fixed soon. Specs: AMD 1800+ ATI 9800 PRO All in Wonder 128 MB 240 GB SATA RAID Maxtor's 1024 PC2700 RAM ASUS A7V600 Mainboard Windows XP Pro One crappy version of BFV 1.0

Have you tried This post? Also, what settings is your game and vid card on? You have AA/AF turned off for that ATI card, right? You have the sound option at low, right? Not on EAX

I have almost same setup as you and mine runs FINE.

BF: Vietnam (PC) - ERROR - "vietnam.exe has encountered a problem" Question When attempting to start Battlefield Vietnam I get an error message saying that "vietnam.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." The game then crashes to the Windows Desktop. How do I fix this? Answer First make sure that the system meets the games minimum system requirements.

This issue is often caused by a system running with a refresh rate higher than 60hz or one that has a Refresh Rate program forcing the game to run at higher refresh rates. To resolve this issue it is necessary to allow the game to run at refresh rates beyond 60hz. In some cases, systems not running with Monitor Refresh Rates higher then 60hz may benefit from the following steps as well.

1. Double click My computer 2. Double click on the C drive 3. Double click on Program Files 4. Double click on EA GAMES 5. Double click on Battlefield Vietnam 6. Double click on Mods 7. Double click on BFVietnam 8. Double click on Settings 9. Double click on VideoDefault.con. If asked what Program to use (in Windows XP you will first want to choose "Display a list of programs for me to choose from), choose WordPad. In there you will see a line with this command:

renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0

Change the 0 to a 1 and then Save the file. This will allow refresh rates above 60 Hz in the game.

Try the game again. If it still crashes you may need to completely uninstall any Refresh Rate modifying programs such as ForceRefresh. THX FOR NOTHING!
