if u mean u want 2 run a server u probably not setting it up right...

o and if u tryin 2 run 1 on a slow 56k connection or somethin dont bother coz u need somethin like dsl at least and even then only about 5 to 10 ppl can join i think

anyway heres a url to a server guide

Naz is quite right. However, even on Cable and DSL you can and will run into severe problems no matter what.

People that join a DSL/Cable server will have outrageous ping, typically 200+ ping. And if you decide to use mods you can forget it; what seperates a server that's rented from a company, say VSK Gaming Servers, is hosted on an OC-33, which provides several Megabytes per second bandwidth, allowing players to download large files in almost no time.

If you're hosting on DSL/Cable, you'll get about 4-10k uploads to your users, which means they can be downloading server files all night long. Then when they do get on the lag is so bad it's unplayable, making it a serious waste of time.

Also, if you host a public game online there's a good chance it'll time out as it'll get pinged a lot when people refresh their server lists. You'll be lucky to be able to get your friend to join.

If you want to play with your friend though, do a LAN party, it's the ultimate alternative. But even with a LAN, downloads will only be 4-10k a second, so you'll need a box set to up as a web host to host your server files, then you'll get those higher bandwidth LAN speeds (3-8MB/sec).

If this doesn't sound like much fun or you don't have a spare system but you have some cash you can spend, then you can rent a server from various sites, such as www.vskgamingservers.com. There are other copmanies, this is the one we endorse, and I know they put out the best servers - period.
