Hi all! Just wanted to talk to you about the skill level of players playing at Lone Wolf. The server is mostly rather busy with all the top players.....and they're getting better and better (unlike me, lol). What about a new player trying the game......is the amount of talented player at Lone Wolf not too much for new players? Or does a rtcw player play at a fair level right from the start? I can't remember how my switch from rtcw went....... Is Ignacio's initiative for training new players a success? Do we need a noob-only-server? Do we have to spread the regular players over more servers (maybe Lone Wolf down to 10 players, with private slots for the sheriffs)? Do we need a (private) server where clans can actually fight with other clans? Danny

I think that would be a good idea. Three weeks ago I would have fought it adamantly. I liked the big games. However I think now it is hurting the game. We need to forcibly spread out the players and fill the other servers or people will just close them. I don't think we need a permanent clan server as we have enough that we can password and I don't think the clans are quite ready for it yet. I also think it would be a good idea to have a server with "Beginner" or "introduction" or even "Newbie" in the name. The training nights seem to have been successful... Well those are my thoughts...
I am willing to rename mine to something that reflect New Player (Ignacio's New Player Only), or something along that lines. The problem would be how we get new players to know about it. I know it will show up in the server list when you browse, but do we need a periodic message that flashes telling new players about the server? And how do we keep the better players off it, or encourage the better players to act as mentors for the newer players?
I am also in favor of reducing the number of players on Lone Wolf, to help force players to get on other servers. I am thinking 12-14 would be best, with a couple of private slots for the server admins so we can monitor if necessary. We should continue our New Player Nights on a regular basis, as long as there are some seasoned players available to acts as guides. Ignacio

If a tutor could be present now and again, it would be helpfull. We should be able to give players a handicap like with golf etc. A list of guids and max-health would even out the difference a lot........or extra inaccuracy for good players.......I'm a programmer myself but I don't have enough insight in the game code to think if such a change is possible and how much work is at stake.IgnacioI am also in favor of reducing the number of players on Lone Wolf, to help force players to get on other servers. Do we start a new post proposing this to our community? I'd like to hear Hewster's oppionion on this item too. [QUOTE=Queeg]We need to forcibly spread out the players and fill the other servers or people will just close them.
Yes, I also think that when a server operator sees it's server empty all of the time.....he/she may get really sad..... Danny
I am thinking that we just go ahead and change the server config for Lone Wolf and reduce the number of players. We could post something on the forum, but we could never notify all the players about the change. We also would need for us to play on other servers instead of just jumping on Lone Wolf all the time. If you join and just spectate for a while, usually someone else will join, and before you know it, you have good game going on. The Distress server has already disappeared from the list, but we don't know why, but inactivity is probably the most likely cause. I don't think we really want to lose any more. Ig
Ok, I've changed maxplayers to 14 for tonight and will reduce it to 12 as of tomorrow. Let's see how it works. I played BeetleJz tonight with 5 others so maybe it works......although it's not easy for me to NOT join LoneWolf with 14 regulars playing... I've setup 6 private slots for us sheriffs to spec without reducing the number of active players. cool danny, We also have been corralling folks on teamspeak to spawn off to other servers too. I strongly recomend to any of us that see new folks to offer them a guided tour over at ig's server, and the new player nights were good, Mrs, A-E, i mean English Rose, has gotten considerably better after a night of teaching. Maybe we should set up a training night on a regular basis and make sure that at least one of us vets are there every week to show the ropes. maybe even with server messages on the various servers too. Also lets NOT use the word NOOB as that will turn off most folks, new player night, WW introductory night, newbie player night but not NOOB NIGHT/SERVER:uhoh:
I have renamed my server to Ignacio's Hacienda-New Players Only.
@Danny-are you going to password the private slots on Lone Wolf so we can get in? We need to schedule some new player nights, with a specific time and date, and we need to organize which one of us is going to be the mentor. Remember, a new player may know the maps, but doesn't like getting their butts kicked by the new players, so we need to allow for some "practice time", instead of making it all tours and explanations. And, not all new players are going to be converts from Wolf either. Also, I was thinking...I get a few ASE invitations to play wolf each night. Maybe we should respond to some of these invites and jump on a wolf server and try to drum up some new players by chatting with them. Waddya Think? Ig
Sorry, the password fell off my post: password: roda Maybe it's getting late for me......but what's 'a few ASE invitatons'? Danny
"The password fell off my post"...is that like "my dog ate my homework'?:type:
ASE if the All Seeing Eye game browser, and you can send out invitations that will appear on players screens when they have ASE running. It's just a way to drum up some more new players. Ig
