Hey gang, would love to hear your feedback too.

I'd like to see some modifications to some of the maps to utilize the 'good' terrain more.

For example, the best part of Drab Town, is mainly sprinted through. I've explored it and it's an awsome map for all sorts of ambushing, but most of the battle takes place around bank and exit. I'd recomend a flag in tavern that both sides can take/retake. If banits have it, cowboys spawn in telegraph office, if Cowboys have it then they spawn in tavern. This would give you more 'town fighting'.

I'd like to see something similar on Canyon (not sure how) for the bandit fort is also an interesting battle ground, but most of fight is at tower/ key room

Also the best part of Hasienda map (the hasienda it's self) is mostly ignored as the fighting takes place in govenors office. I'd love to see room to room fighting on this map. But here again not sure how to incourage it. Bolty & Hewster put a lot of time into areas that are hardly used.

I basically agree with you, that the maps have some areas which are very much underused, however you'll find when there are more players playing, these areas do get some action :)

End of the day though, its upto BoltyBoy if he wants to change anything, since they are his work, I wasn't involved in the map making at all really, except as someone for BoltyBoy to bounce his ideas off of :)

I've been thinking about this a lot for my map. When a player's objectives are set, they will take the quickest route from point A (spawn) to point B.

Under utilization is one of the reasons that I'd like to have some CP games going.

I'm tired of running in a straight lines, every map, beginning to end. At best you get to choose from four approaches yet these maps are all huge.

That's one of the main reasons I like the RtCW Armegedon map. You never need to take the same route twice.

But Dragon, almost all of the maps are already setup as GREAT! capture the flag (CP) maps. The Town one is particulary excellent for that (Check out the top of the saloon & the sherrif's office, the stables of course and telegraph office, Carraige...that's all I remember) but almost all the other maps have flags to capture too. Hacienda and mine do. I don't think TikkiT's "Pedro's Harmonica" has cp but I haven't looked to make sure. We just need to convince the admins to turn these on in the server rotation.

I've started a movement to get this to happen. I use the initials for this movement as my forum name. You know: "CAPTure the flag's Quick Utilization for Excellent and Enjoyable Gaming" Of course that's abreviated as Capt. QUEEG.

Hosters out there: Is there any reason why you have decided not to turn these on? Or is it just a matter of changing the Map Rotation cfg?

Well unfortunately we can't vote on it. The game type is controlled by the server. Following Hewster's setup, the configuration would be in the file map1_rot_go.cfg. The default file looks like this:

Best yet combine the two and have CP and SW on the same list.

OK, I just tested this cfg and it seems to work. I'm gonna start a server tonight and run it perhaps through the morning under CP mode. I expect it will be laggy and lossy and it won't be up for long as I don't like leaving the computer up in the Internet without my router in the mix and I'm willing to bet my software firewall will slow traffic some. But MAYBE it will work well enough to give us a taste. NO PROMISES!

Very cool Queeg. I joined your server. After winning wildwest_town, it switched to wildwest_mine. Unfortunately, I don't believe the mine is set up for CP :(, since my game crashed.

Hmm Did it play OK? I forgot to rename Main to something else last night so perhaps that was part of the switching problem. The Mine map does have CP if I remember right. I think the cabin is not in the mix or tha game would never end...

----- My son came in this morning about 9:15 and took over the computer. From the log it looks like it was mid game. Sorry to all those out there. I thought closing the explorer task would have prevented user switching.

I'm afraid I over-reacted (the base line of the Teen Titans game had woken me up and I'd warned my wife about the server and not to use the computer) and I ended his game to check on server. I didn't yell or anything but he's sometimes very sensitive when he's told he's done something wrong when he thought he was being good. So there were tears. By now I was fully awake and thinking straight so I appologized and reinstated my router so our other computer has internet access again...

If anyone knows how to get your external IP address to register instead of your internal one, I'd really like to know. Then I could leave this running most of the day. I thought I'd tricked it by starting the server so the external IP was added and then putting in the router and then repairing the network address but that didn't work.

This part will be edited out later, so don't reference the ip in the replies. It will be replaced with XXX's so people won't try to get in a year from now when the dynamic IP address has long since changed: My current IP address is 24.164.110.168 You should be able to put that in your favourites list and MAYBE you'll be able to join the game... Worth a try till someone gives me the IP fix. I tried putting set NET_IP in the server.cfg file but that didn't work. I'll try a few other things until someone joins the games successfully or till it appears on the general server list. If my router is up, I don't care if I leave the game running. I'll probably go out and buy more ram today or tomorrow if any place is open...

I'm a networker by profession, but not a server admin. What type of router is it? If it's Linksys, I can test it on mine.
