most companies use the same engine cause its too compex to change it... also this engine is bran-spanking new..so obviously they'll stay with it for awhile..

for god's sake they used Quake's engine for years..

true i understand how they just made it, but. The game engine is based on dark games like doom. Im trying to take hl2 for example they made the engine based on pyshics, and thats where i think the doom 3 engine is lacking. Correct me if im wrong but most people wanna see the pyshical damage to a wall or pick something up and destroy it. Does doom offer that??

yes it will, it also has a very good physics engine and ragdoll physics (see the trialers) and this engine is saposed to offer improvments around lighting and shadowing, but still offers a physics model and some distructability in certian areas. and u dont base a engine on anything every engine has graphics a little physics and sound, stuff like that, the only diffrence is the quality of it for example doom 3 has better quality dynamic lighting than hlf2

You are correct. People want to see the physical damage and I think the Doom 3 engine does that. I read where you see the damage done to the demons from the effects of the different weapons and I am intrigued. I"ve been playing Painkiller lately and I like the Havok engine they used. But I'm sure the D3 engine will make that look like small potatoes.

president im only asking on a need to know bases, im not saying anything direct. Im asking the questions cause i dont much about the doom 3 engine.. isnt their another engine in the works for the next generation graphic cards thought i saw it somewhere, think it was the new unreal engine.. and yes i did notice the damage effects to monsters, But where is the wall damage, or deformitty of the world enviorment, Dont get me wrong im looking very much to the game and im sure it will make me ahhhhhhh for months. just trying to get a good aspec of the engine thats all. Anyone know what it could be capable of doing??

Well, as far as we have heard solo, the Doom 3 engine has all objects in the world existing in a non-static state (except for those in the game that id Software did not deem necessary of being movable, which I expect you will find few), which means that virtually everything in the environement is destructible. It is technically the first engine developed and used in a game that does so to date. Future engines/ones currently indevelopement, such as the Unreal 3 engine, will most likely build upon that and improve on it.

think of the doom3 engine as the hlf2 engine with better shadowing and graphics
