I swear to god, everywhere I go now there's someone that's a f***in "**** off to HL2 fanboy" because I can NOT turn ANYWHERE and not see Doom 3 getting slammed by morons. I just ran into this quote tonite: "The Graphic used to look ok three years ago when the first screen shots came out... now they just look ****y compared to something like Half-Life 2. The models are all blocky and the levels are to small. I can't see ANYTHING ether. And the FPS rating sucks, if you compared that to the FPS I get on Half-Life 2, (12 vs. 67) the engine is obviously horrible. " You'd have to be blind to call the game any less then beautiful, and if it's dark then why are you complaining it's supposed to be dark, it's a base on mars being attacked by HELL. What did you expect, sunny fields? And the engine isn't horrible it's the fact it uses fully dynamic lighting compared to the older static lighting, when any light is in doom 3 the engine has to trace the path of EVERY LIGHT PARTICLE while static lighting is already shaded so it doesn't. That adds an unbelivable amount of stress on your video card, that's why the models are blockey its to speed things up. I don't even notice how blocky they are because the skins are so very well done. And I don't see how your getting an FPS of twelve unless you have something lower then a 9200. My freind ran this on his 9200 at low settings and got a nice frame frate of 30-40. The overall game as a whole is a masterpiece, from the skins to the engine to the sound design. I swear I just can't stand seeing a good game, let alone one made by the fathers of the modern FPS (HL was not the game that brought FPSes into the world, it was Wolf3d, or Doom, or Quake) being unjustly insulted by morons who bash Carmacks programming but barely even know what an engine does.

SssitinithI swear to god, everywhere I go now there's someone that's a f***in "**** off to HL2 fanboy" because I can NOT turn ANYWHERE and not see Doom 3 getting slammed by morons.
I couldn't agree more Sssitinith. sure HL2 probably is a great game (havent played it yet:rolleyes: ) but its not an incentive to talk sh** about another game; especially doom3, a great game btw, that flawlessly utilizes its amazing lighting/shading abilities of its engine to scare the crap outta u. ppl who dislike doom3 shudnt b so damn vulgar about it. cuz just saying "its f****** gay cuz i cant c ne thing and it runs slow on computer since i didnt read the min sys requirements" doesnt legitamately justify their argument :moon: .(but in my opinion nothing really that serious can really b said to criticize the overall game:nodding: )
I would die without GF

I fully agree with you as well Sssitinith. Having played both games, I think that it is rather unfair to slam Doom 3 and it's developers so harshly. They are both excellent and masterpieces in and of themselves, but Doom 3 has a very different focus for what atmosphere it is intended to creat around the player. The only rants that we have commonly seen in this area of the forums has been those that have bashed Doom 3, so it is nice to see someone speak up in a counter strike against such.
Fortunately though, you won't find very many complaints in the Doom 3 forums as it is. :D
I haven't played Half-Life 2 yet(ordered it already, should be coming in the next few days), but I guarantee that it "ties up" with Doom 3 in terms of "game goodness"...Doom 3 has incredible dynamic lighting as Sssitinith said, but Half-Life 2 displays more of thsoe outdoor environments and nearly life-like interaction with objects. Sure, Doom 3 has it as well, but not in a such high level. I like Doom 3 simply because it is Doom, because it's dark, the monsters are horrid, they jump on you out of nowhere, and also because it's irritating to use the flashlight without a gun , since it adds a lot to the "nerve" factor. Both are great games, each with its advantages and disadvantages. And I really expected to see characters' bodies casting shadows on themselves, like on that Doom 3 graphics mod, Jedi Knight 2 and 3(although very bad-detailed), and Far Cry.
Anyway, there are no perfect games. There never will be, probably. But as a friend of mine said: "I don't want realistic games. I want games that take me as far away from reality as they can. If I want something like World War II, I'll just watch a movie, because it's much better."
^- IMO That's a good part of the engine, right now if you mod doom 3 with the "Ultra-high quality" mod and make the models self casting, the low poly count becomes painfully obvious, and if they made the poly count higher it'd slow the game down WAY to much. So you can have your self casting models if you want, (alot of people do play with UHQ mod) but I'd rather stick to the original
Me too, I've never tried the UHQ-Mod because it would make the game lag like crazy on my computer.
Actually it doesn't add to much on to the load... at least in my freinds case. The one with the 9200 that got 30-40 fps on low tried enhanced doom (Just to blow zombies across the room as far as possible with a shotgun... we had a contest on how far they would go :p) and that has UHQ built into it... it only got him down to around 25-33 IIRC
I don't pay any mind to it, it is just another chapter in the book "Chronicles of the fanboy wars". It's a New York Times Bestseller, by the way... lol
I have half-Life 2. It is a great f**kin game. I actually like it more than Doom 3. But I still love the Doom 3. I think that Doom 3 has better environmental graphics. Half-Life 2 has better people graphics and stuff. And Sssinith. I have a Radeon 9200 and Doom 3 runs great on it. Cant wait for D3 Rssurection of Evil. :stallard:
