Majic_Mushroom So, as the title suggests, please share your experiences with the game, spill it all out, amazements, disappointments, everything!
Ill try to with out spoiling it for others
Im still hyped from playing it an hour ago.
The dark moody atmosphere is excellent in the game. id did a wonderful job with this with shadows and the "away from home feeling". Being on mars does bring that lonely feeling I guess. You + some survivors + a ton of mutant monsters + the vacuum of space = Fun
Some people think the game is all about the eye candy shooting stuff up like all of the old fps. Well your right in a way, you shoot mobs up but the way id has done this is so sweet. You can shoot mutated colleagues in the head and blood will squirt on the walls behind. Or blow out the stomachs. I havnt tried dismebering body parts, but I will try.
If you are the type of person who feels they are immune to being scared. You will be when you play this game :)
I almost pissed my pants while playing. Without giving to much away, there are alot of surprising encounters with infested marines, civilian workers and such. I havnt gotten to far but I'm 45 minutes into the game before I had to shut the game down before I had a heart attack :P
My hair was sweaty, my ears wet from the leather headphones and my shirt was alittle damp. My left pinky was numb from holding the run key down for minutes on end ( yes I was running for my life at times ). And the main thing I noticed is that, the flashlight is not equipable or mounted on your weapons. You know in some games like half-life or counter-strike, where you could turn your light on while your gun was out? Well i have tried to get both gun and flashlight out but you cant. Im guessing id done this on purpose for more of that scary feeling. In some places it is slightly dark, and I am the type of person that will search every nuck and cranny for secret ammo or health. But in Doom3 I never even tried lol, I was too afraid that I may trigger something.
As for as disapointments. I dont have much really. Like above, I havnt gotten to far to be ranting about something. The only thing that I noticed or bothered me were that there were a few buttons missing in the controls.
I will call them universal buttons.
1 )The "Use" button ( i.e open/interact ) is not there. Doors will simply open on there on if your close, or when you come apun a computer console, your center screen will turn to a small in-game cursor and you can click to activate a elevator or a type of interactive door.
2) Auto-run- I have looked up and down for an auto run feature. There is a autorun button but that must be held down and used with the forward button. Craming your finger or "pinky" up just to run is not fun.
3) Off-screen pause- Well Ill try to explain this. You know how in duex ex when ever you would interact with a control panel, the screen will fill up with it and you hack etc? Well you have a PDA or something like that, that you use alot I guess in the game. I had a new update inside but, I when ever I would use it, it seems the game is still running meaning that monsters can run up and take a nice clean whack at me. Frankly I've never opened it in fear of that happening again. The game should be paused when you use that :)
None the less this is nothing to me and the game rocks.
If you havnt pre-ordered the game yet.."Get up and do it now!"
You dont know what your missing.
but don't f***ing spoil anything!
I hope I didnt...tee hee
*runs and hides*
I would die without GF

Wow, I don't think you have spoiled anything so far, but instead informed me of one of the gameplay gore properties that I have been itching to find out about: the fact that you can blow brains and entrails out of the zombies' rotting bodies, spraying blood everywhere in the process, is stimulating new enough for me! Furthermore, I am quite pleased to hear confirmed that there is a constant atmosphere of fear and dread. Once I am though a few truly testing spots of terror in the game myself, I want my palms to be sweating beyond belief (as well as the rest of me :naughty: ), and I think you've just confirmed the possibility of such.
God, I am suddely extremely anxious to grab my copy of the game! My patience is wearing thin... :uhoh:
CorTi even censored myself. i'm getting better ;)
1st impression? It scared the living daylights out of me! Been playing for a total of 30 mins and i had to exit before i had coronary. Perhaps i should play with the sound down and put the headphones away ... for the sake of my heart!!!!
not that i would use them, are there cheats? iddqd idkfa etc... i will find out soon
Yes there are cheats, but I shall not post them!!!
Kidding, pm me if you want them. I dont think people would want them posted here.
And dont cheat to you beat the game. Dont give in to the fear! :P
I wouldn't cheat to beat the game but they must give some gd replay value, esp with doom 1 and 2 in there.
Plenty of nice reviews and comments here.
I have plenty of questions about the game to those who played it.
1. Is the AI good? Is it scripted or random? 2. How many CDs are in the box and what are they for? 3. Are levels huge and differ from one another? 4. Is there good replayability? 5. Can anyone with a sucky graphics card like Geforce FX5200 or Geforce 3 or whatever share the gameplay experience?
Thanks. I have been anxious to know these things.
omg i cant wait till tomorrow when i get it :) IM GOING TO PISS MY PANTS YAY!!!!! and dont diss the GeForce FX 5200 :( i have that card..meanie...ill probably end up playing the game @ 800x600 with medium quality
sup2069Ive read on another forum that a guy beat it in 14 hours on normal. Not sure if he rushed through to establish a time record or what. Ive just started playing about 2 hours ago on normal. I was going to hit veteran at first, but I wanted my first experiance to be atleast a good one. There is a nightmare setting ( shudder ) but its locked. Im guessing you need to beat the game on veteran first to unlock? Me and the poster have basicly the same system except for the memory and cpu. The game requires 500mb of memory on ultra textures. I have a 9800pro 128 with cpu oc'd at 3.1ghz and 1gig dual mem. I did the scan like the poster did and it recommended my setting on medium and the lowest rez? wtf? So I bummped all the settings to max, left AA off and started a new game. It runs stuttery ( word? ) with min off 15fps and max 40fps. But when doors open and you turn to fast the game will lag 2-4 secs. I ignored it and proceded on. After the monsters came out I found it impossible to move on with the fps skips and sutters. So i resized the rez down to 800x600 and the game was smoother. I havnt tried anything lower than ultra textures and probably wont :P Also if you own a x800 or 6800 and your system is on par with mine or better. You'll do sweet with everything full or on and AA enabled Also to the poster, try this to boost performance Go to your control panel. Click on opengl and change texture and mipmap to high performance. To make up for the extra detail loss, just floor the graphics ingame to full and try again. I just redone this myself, forgot to change it before installing the game. Ill do this and see what fps I get.
Ok You need a 256MB card to run at high. a 512MB card to run at ultra and this is on the videocard so yea if you asked in the "will my comp run doom III" thread we could have solved that problem for you.
So now that the game is out, what are the official requirements to run the game on high settings not ultra? What will we need to get lagless gameplay on high quality(1024X768)?
