DooM 3 was the last of the fanchise/doom series. ID themselves said this. any rumors about "DooM 4" or speculation, will be dismissed, and the rumor starter be flamed. i cannot possibly make this more clear.... there are no "screenshots" or "unreal 4" (ID makes their own engines) no super duper magical engines like source 2, or whatever idiot said that. this is all a load of.....

ID is NOT going to make another one, they are also NOT selling the title to another company (or working with them like in ROE). [quote=1337cshacker]DooM 3 was the last of the fanchise/doom series. Well, they could change their minds in the future. Wasn't final doom supposed to be the final doom? (correct me if im wrong). There's always a possibility, but for now, like you said, no Doom 4.

basicly, Final DooM was not suppsed to be the last. they got ideas for quake and that was a big project for the longest time. yes, they MIGHT, change their minds there is about a 5% chance of them doing so. the main thing is, is that john carmak is no longer working for ID, at least not to my knowledge, hes working for nasa, designing rockets, he might be doing both though.

Do you have a link to where ID said this? Something other than you just saying 'ID themselves said this.'

I refuse to believe anything anybody says about Doom 4 until I see a link to an official statement by an id software employtee

I certainly won't take it on the word of somebody who managed to get himself banned from our forums.

John Carmack is still working with id software, I have no idea what you're talking about NASA for. He is involved with Armadillo Aerospace, which you'll notice is NOT NASA. Maybe you're thinking of Adrian Carmack being fired from id over an employment contract dispute?

At QuakeCon 2004, during id software's keynote speech, it was stated that Carmack is already working on his next-gen engine, including "floating point blending, and how he enjoyed the unlimited instruction count of modern video cards. He also touched on polygon count which used to be a limiter, but he says now and going forward is no longer the case" (AMDZone.com)

Drawing on logic and the opinions of people who know what they're talking about, I see no reason that the Doom series will not be continued. The Wolfenstein series is already being expanded:

id Software(TM) and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI - News) confirmed at Microsoft's X05 event in Amsterdam that the newest installment in the legendary Wolfenstein® series is being developed for the Xbox 360(TM) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC.

I'm getting sick of hearing rumors. Unless you have any conclusive proof one way or the other, please keep the spam to yourself!
