I'm looking to adapt some of my favorite mods to RoE.

The problem I mostly face is that all the selectable equipment is transferred to the numbers (flashlight as 1, fists/tractor as 2, pistol at 3...machine gun at 7...chain gun at 9...), and the Artifact isn't even accessible without some difficulty.

What do I need to change in what file(s) to fix this?

i may be barking up the wrong tree here, but the 3dxp-player.def is probably a good start

You can create an autoexec.cfg like this in the folder's mod...:
