A random adim should make this a sticky. My good computer has been broken but now that its reformated ive had the time to sit down and mess with the editor and I have some tips some I found from other sites some I found by pressing bottons.
Tip #1 You should just make two shortcuts and put them in a doom file on your desktop.(Cause we all know doom3 fans are fans of the older ones to) One shortcut for the game, and one for the editor only. Ill give an example for what mine looks like: C:\Doom3\Doom3.exe set r_fullscreen 0 +set com_allowConsole 1 +editor. This will start the game in windowed mode, then automatically start the editor. Now in your other shortcut, in the Target line, make it look like this: C:\Doom3\Doom3.exe set r_fullscreen 1 +set com_allowConsole 1. The reason why you want two is because if you switch from playing the game going to the editor and then back to the game doom3 will be in windowed mode and youll have to quit/restart doom. Its just easy to make the two shortcuts.
Playing your own maps The only way to get your own maps to run you must load it from the editor. Then go to the BSP menu and click on BSP. The in-editor console window should have a bunch of text that will scroll by as BSP compiles the map. If it doesn't report any errors your safe to run the level. In the editor hit F2 to load Doom 3. Bring down the console by hitting ~ and type in the path to your map. Lets say you put a folder in your base/maps/game directory called *testmap* then you would name your map that you made *mymap* tpye in: /game/testmap/mymap.map **There is a space between map and /game**
Tip #2 When your making a doom3 remember it has to be "water tight" just like the half life mods. I only made mods for Jdoom so my maps suck lol. In other words if you can make a map without something like: Walls not fully connecting at lets say a pipe. Its small where its not connected but its still there. This causes major problems in maps if any part of it isnt "water tight" For those of you that made half life mods that were good then this should be easy.
Im sorry if these tips are already in some area of the forums but atleast now theyre all in one thread. Here are some other interesting things I found from looking around at google: http://www.planetdoom.com/meanarena/doom3_editing.html http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=3017
If anyone else has anything at all to add please feel free to do so I dont care if your making quotes from these links if its useful info please put it here thanks.
