:uhoh:To Whomever, I just want to know how I can extract those pix(graphic) files from the game, so as to edit them! I have Image Composer that uses *.tga files.

The .tga files for the textures and models are in the pak004.pk4 and pak002.pk4 respectively, also remember that the compressed version of the same files .dds are in the pak001.pk4, all this in the base folder into the Doom 3 folder.

You will need a WinRAR or WinZIP kind of program to open this .pk4 files and you will be able to see the directories and files that are into the .pk4 file that in fact is a .zip compressed file, just renamed to .pk4, ok. :)

Remember to make backups first and to work on another folder like if you where making a mod, so, if you are into Doom 3 folder create a folder named for example newd3gfx and copy the pak002.pk4 and pak004.pk4 and then change whatever you want from this new folder you just created.

Then to run the game using your new mod folder, you can do it by typing this from the DOS command or creating a batch executable text file and like for example newd3gfx ending in .cmd or .bat and editing it with your preferred text editor, i use TextPad, that is the best text editor for programmers at least on PC, well, and type this...:

cd.. doom3.exe +set fs_game newd3gfx +disconnect

Save it and run D3 from this batch file and you will be on D3 but using your new mod folder.

You can see opening the console and type this...:

fs_game // then press TAB key to see what appears...

To test the gfx, load some map with the command map nameofthemap that use any of the gfx you have changed and you will have first to make sure that the mod are using .tga files first, NOT .dds compressed same versions or you will not see any change, type this to the console to enable .tga as the high priority gfx...:

set image_usePrecompressedTextures "0"

And then to activate the changes you will need to restart the screen with this command...:

vid_Restart

Wait a little and you will see your new custom created gfx !!! :)

:rolleyes:To Dafama2k7,

Thank you so much! Just got into the game recently. A friend gave me the CD's FREE! I didn't think I'd like the game. But seeing that it's a FPS, I thought I'd try it! Hated the PENTAGRAM symbols and demonic synbolisms! But I love the shoot-em-up style! Plus the map editor.

Your reply is very helpful!

Remember that if you like Doom 3 or any game you may play for free with cracked CD's, you will have to buy it legally, the company and the programmers worked very hard on this game for many years and sure you will enjoy to have the game with original manuals, cd's/dvd's, also if you want support from the community and to be able to be a member of the ever growing BIG Doom 3 universe.

And of course Pentagrams and the like cannot go out on a game based on Hell + Mars + space, they are visually very impressive, i like it, but of course, i like all Doom related ! :D

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ANY GAMER, THIS IS TO FIND, DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE LATEST DIRECTX JUNE 2k8 ARCHIVE...: You can find the latest and very important DirectX June 2k8 download file here...:

Download details: DirectX Redist (June2008)

And the same but web installer only DirectX version here...:

Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime

I recommend better to click on the first link because it enables to download the full latest DirectX, so you have saved on some folder the compressed file always for you to re-install it quickly, because there are many games or games DEMOS sometimes install older versions of DirectX, so after you have installed some game or game demo, if you think that an older DirectX may have replaced your DirectX then for safety just quickly re-install the latest DirectX from that full DirectX file, ok ! :)

Don't forget you will need something to translate those DDS images. Nvidia has some awesome ( and FREE ) software that will come in handy, including a plugin directly for photo shop ( what I am using ). You can go here for the DDS utilities. NVIDIA Texture Tools I also love to use pk4Scape tool to unzip and look inside the program folders, you can get it here, PK4Scape, Doom 3 Downloads, Doom 3 Utilities I am still new to the modding world. I do not have as much experience as my old friend,BRC or someone like Dafma2k7, who have much more experience and knowledge, but I hope this info helps as well. :cya: As far as the pentagrams and symbolisms of the Doom series, well all I can say is. In wolfenstein 3d, ( another great Id game ) we had some nasty evil Nazis to spray some bullets into. If you think about it though, most enemies in these kind of games are evil, but they are always the pawns of evil, while the TRUE evil never physically shows itself and hides laughing in some far away dimension . That's what makes the Doom series so frigging great ! You actually fight THE forces of hell. Evil rears it's ugly head and we promptly put a weapon in it and pull the trigger to end it's torment and suffering. I am however amused that almost no one realizes that the pentagram was for some time a Christian symbol, and the 5 pointed star is still used by those of the Jewish faith, and that at one time the pentagram was the symbol of Jerusalem. Anyway, I couldn't ask for much more than to blast the crap out of demons flooding into this plane of existence, and you will be hard pressed to find an enemy so imbued with all of the things you should naturally want to defeat and wipe out of existence. Just remember that the game is supposed to creep you out and you will see a lot of things that should help remind you of why your fighting against them. :D

And remember...:

Buy the D3 game or any other game and/or ROE game expansion both legally (original), not a cracked couple free CDs full of viruses and no manuals, think on it, please, the programmers and artists WORKED VERY HARD on this game for many years, so...:

NO HELP, NO SUPPORT, NO RIGHTS AND NO MODS TO HACKERS, BUY THE GAME !!! :deal:

:rolleyes:To Dafama2k7, I got the CD's legally! My friend bought it but decided he didn't want to play anymore! This is what he said, "Outgrew" playing games. So he gave the game to me. Anyways, I tried what you said earlier about unpacking pak002 and pak004. I did and I made the changes to the pix files (*.tga). The thing that I really want to change are the monsters! Changed them using Microsoft Image Composer. Then re-zipped them and changed zipped file name to pak002.pk4. Then reloaded it to Doom3, base subdirectory. Played the game, and zap! Nothing! The changed .tga files didn't show! Game played well, but not on Multiplayer! Had to re-copy original pak002 file to Doom, base subdirectory! I still have to try the other .bat file! Will let you know. And to Psychosis00, Thanks for the links! Will check them out!

Ok, then, understand it. :)

To be able to see the changes enter this in the Autoexec.cfg or if you are in game open the console and type this...: image_usePrecompressedTextures "0" And then to activate the changes you will need to restart the screen with this command...: vid_Restart Done.

And you won't need to change or remove or replace anything on D3 base and/or d3xp folders, use your own mod folder creating the mod folder names as you want and then copy your own modified .pk4s into them.

Then access it starting Doom 3 with this command line on a batch file for example...:

start doom3.exe +set fs_game yournewfoldermodname +set "image_usePrecompressedTextures 0" +disconnect

Done.
