Hi, If this has been asked before I couldn't find it. Sorry. OK, I'm trying to make some changes to one of the firepower mods. (D3 Enhanced firepower.) And I can't get my changes to take. When I load the mod after changing, I get the standard weapons with no mods. What I've been doing is changing the .pk4 to zip, then using Zipgenius to unpack, but that didn't work, so now I've been editing them while packed and ZG gives the option to save when I'm done. WHAT the heck am I doing wrong? I KNOW I need the right paths, but it seems like this should be keeping them intact. BTW, I did try the mod without making changes and it works fine. Thanks for any and all help. Ciao, V'ger gone

I'm assuming you are talkin about editing the weapon values. In which case, just use winzip to unpack. Change what you need. Then change the .zip extension back to .pk4

I'm not entirely clear on your problem, but if that's it.... yeah.

Hi, Well, I'm presuming it's a pathing problem. That is, that my changed files aren't put in the pack with the proper paths for some reason with Zipgenius. So I'm going to try WinZip. Thanks, V'ger gone

I've never heard of Zipgenius so i can't really say if that's the problem or not. But i know winzip is deff recommended for unpacking pk4.

But... if it's the same ZipGenius that shows up on Spybot search and destroy reports... i suggest getting that program off your comp.

Rename the pk4 to zip, right click, choose explore, extract the files you want to edit, edit them, create folders that mimic the folder structure of the original files, place your edited files in the right folders, create a new compressed (zipped) folder, put your folders in it, rename it to mymod.pk4, rename the original back to pk4. Voila! Zipgenius blows. Learn how to use windows. ;)

Hi,

Well, the problem turned out to be that I would unpack into a directory named (for example) pak010. When I chose to unpack to base instead, it worked fine and my changes took. (After repacking, etc.) Thanks for all the instructions/suggestions.

I really love Zipgenius and it's free, unlike WinZip.

Now, my next problem. Is there somewhere other than player.def where you set max total ammo? I wanted to decrease the amount of ammo for the machinegun from the 2000 (I think) allowed in the original mod and changed it to 960. That one change will not take. At one time the maxammo for the MG was up to 500, I think because the clip size was at 100, but putting the clipsize at 120 puts my maxammo back to 480.

I've looked through the MG def file and didn't see anything that obviously related to maxammo, so I'm looking for suggestions. (I thought there might be some tie in between clipsize and maxammo, a multiple variable, for example.

Thanks for any help.

Ciao, V'ger gone

If you have XP you don't need winzip.
