A NEW Flashlight mod is coming and i am asking, what features do we want for a Flashlight mod ???
I know what i want from a flashlight mod, i want many things, and in part the standard flashlight that comes with Doom 3 is one of the best flashlights made for a game, but maybe a little lower the light and with a too much small radius.
But it has good thinks, for example it casts shadows, very good and it makes the scare factor higher, although it can be done better, in fact i have seen one game that does it much, much better, the game...:
The Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay. In this game the flashlights are attached on some weapons, but the principle is the same, so what made this flashlights better ? The answer is that because the way the flashlight, they're light and shadows it casts and the way it is moved is much more realistic, specially the shadows move when you are running or walking, like in the real life !!!
In Doom 3, for an unknown reason, the first person has this moving casted shadows feature disabled in first person view, but hey, if you enable the third person view you will see the same kind of realistic moving shadows appears like in the Riddick game !
So, why it is fixed this kind of stuff that makes the game much more scary on a game that one of the main features is that wants to scare the player ???
Well, so it comes my mod, that all it does is just this, to bring realistic moving real time shadows for the flashlight on Doom 3, finally !!! :D
I fight for myself.

What I want with a flashlight mod is not what anyone would expect. I found the Doom3 flashlight very well balanced but for the year it was set come on the BFG9000 and we are still using flashlights? For a Doom3 flashlight mod I would like a bit more realism for the year the game is set in. Give us night vision/thermal or something reasonably realistic. If your really sticking with the flashlight idea do something like allowing people to tag targets, open doors and for christ sake put a battery life on it It will make people think, Do I use the flashlight in this gloomy area or risk something jumping out of me to survive a darker area? Also wouldn't there be a flashlight on their armor like in Half Life/F.E.A.R/[Insert game with flashlight on suit here]. Would we really still be using hand held flashlights in the future?

:rolleyes:To Nitronumber9, As was mentioned earlier, try doing a nightvision/thermalvision! That'll be kind of easier. A question unrelated to this subject. Is there any way to import the images of Doom3 so as to customize/edit them?
Well, we both are right, i like our ideas and i have to say that all of this can be and would be added to my NewFlashlight mod, but first the mod has to do a proper and realistic light and shadows and this is what actually it does and better than any other mod, so in next versions i will add more and more of this features, but now see that flashlights functionality, we will like it, sure...
Now, the first v1.0 of the NewFlashlight mod is finished and already uploaded, soon will be on d3files, try it, if some of you has played the Riddick game will see what is a good flashlight ! :)
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ANY GAMER, THIS IS TO FIND, DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE LATEST DIRECTX JUNE 2k8 ARCHIVE...: You can find the latest and very important DirectX June 2k8 download file here...:
And the same but web installer only DirectX version here...:
I recommend better to click on the first link because it enables to download the full latest DirectX, so you have saved on some folder the compressed file always for you to re-install it quickly, because there are many games or games DEMOS sometimes install older versions of DirectX, so after you have installed some game or game demo, if you think that an older DirectX may have replaced your DirectX then for safety just quickly re-install the latest DirectX from that full DirectX file, ok ! :)
@Pompom500 - Remember that if you like Doom 3 or any game you may play for free with cracked CD's, you will have to buy it legally, the company and the programmers worked very hard on this game for many years and sure you will enjoy to have the game with original manuals, cd's/dvd's, also if you want support from the community and to be able to be a member of the ever growing BIG Doom 3 universe. And of course Pentagrams and the like cannot go out on a game based on Hell + Mars + space, they are visually very impressive, i like it, but of course, i like all Doom related !
