This will cover the weapons first and move on to monsters and other textures later. I will answer your questions the best I can, but try to keep it on topic, so that people can just come to this thread and find what they need without having to read through a bunch of shite. Also, this is for people who have a clear understanding of file management and photoshop (finding folders, creating new folders, renaming files, changing extensions, using layers, brightness, contrast, filters, etc.) I can teach you to make skins, but I won't teach you how to use windows or photoshop Thanks.
Skinning the pistol
Open pistol.dds, pistol_s.dds and pistol_h.tga. These files determine the colors, the shininess and the bumpiness respectively. After you finish, save them and put them in a new folder where you need to create other folders that mimic the original folder structure: dds/models/weapons/pistol - DDS models/weapons/pistol - TGA After you finish, create a new compressed folder and drag both folders (and sub-folders) into it. Then rename it to z-mypistol.pk4 or whatever you want, making sure it will be loaded last and supercede any other skin. The order in which the pk4s load is: 0...9-A...Z So that if the original skin is named pistol.pk4, the name of yours needs to begin with any letter after P (q,r,s,t,etc). Hope that's clear.
Awesome. I really needed why the pistol_s and pistol_h were there... Thanks Fragger! Also what kind of dds file should we save it at? Oh and how do we make it less/more shiney?
Fragger Open pistol.dds, pistol_s.dds and pistol_h.tga. These files determine the colors, the shininess and the bumpiness respectively.
To make it shiny, increase brightness and contrast. (auto contrast and then fade the effect to taste).
What kind Of .dds should I save it at? I have the .dds plugin for photoshop that you told me about.
Whenever I hit save, the window that pops up already has the right type selected. it's 8:8:8:8: something. Can't remember ATM.
Ah I downloaded your mod (It rocks by the way) and I modded some of the files (BFG that BFG 9000 didn't look good to me) and I know what to save it as now. Thanks man.
Also reguarding your mod Thanks for the Black/green BFG that I suggested. Its really nice. All I need to do is make it lime green.
I listen, see?
