Hey guys, I bought a 9800 PRO but the game still slows down to 12-15 FPS when there is more than one monster on the screen. Darn! Reducing the resolution doesn't do a thing. Still slow. I figure, CPU must be the bottleneck. Just walking around, the FPS stays around 40-60. I have an Athlon XP 1700(266) and the best processor I can put in my current mobo is Althlon XP 2600(266). Should I buy a 2600? It'll cost me $60. I'm not looking to have everything super-smooth or anything. I just want FPS during firefights be at least 25 or so. Will 2600 give me 25 FPS during a fight? Have a nice day/night everyone...

My 2200 and Geforce FX gives me very smooth frames during play. The tweaks will also help significantly. I say go for it though. Not only will it help with Doom, it will help with any other games you play. And for $60, that's not such a kick in the teeth.

If i were you I buy a new motherboard and a 64bit processor because my athlon 2600 fsb333 isn't very good and i am getting a amd 64 3200 and a bfg geforce 6800 gt and a gig of ram for an upgrade.

Lol, must be nice for you to have all that cash for upgrades. Not all of us have the luxury of upgading from the "slow" 2X00 XPs to a shiny new AMD64..... Anyways, Gifty I have an XP 2700+ 333, and it runs fine with my 9800 pro at 1280X1024 w/ high details. I don't experience slow downs of any kind. Some very occasional halting, but that is a different issue I think. Have you tried over clocking your proc at all? That can usually yeild fairly good results for free, and if it doesn't work out, or isn't as fast as you want you still have the option of getting a new 2600+ anyway.

hi, uhm, im new here, and i have a question... ok, first my stats, Radeon9800PRo 128mb, athlon xp 2200, 512 Ram PC3200 and so on, well, i run doom at 800x600 at med settings pretty good, (30 to 40) minimal slow downs, only in big fights (20 fps) and stuff like that...

and now its time for pc upgrades (^ ^)!!! well i really want to play this and all the newest games all smooth at high settings, and i was thinking of getting an amd64 3400+ (2.4Ghz) and an extra stick of 512 pc3200 ram... can anyone give me an estimate on how much performance i should expect form this? or is there a better upgrade i should consider (video card?) well, thanks anyways.... doom rocks!! \m/ (^ ^) \m/
